so im not sure what to do, it doesnt seem like a bad plan but at the same time the only reason i would like to try to save the limb for a year or two more is because she is about 13lbs over weight and it would be nice to slim her down for three leg life.

Ah, we see now! If you can hold off and get her to lose the weight, that would be the absolute best thing. Keeping a tripawd's weight down is key to a good recovery.

You are both in our thoughts. Thanks for the update, keep us posted!

I've taken 12 pounds off Trouble since her amputation on Dec 12.  I believe they have instincts that tell them they need to loose the pounds.  Trouble was a chow hound!  Always wanted her food bowl filled, and would eat and/or graze at will during the day and night.  After her surgery it was critical to get the weight down, she's a bully breed that carries so much weight in the front.  I put her on a strict, measured diet with two scheduled meals each day.  She has done incredibly well, and doesn't demand food as she did before (for which I am eternally thankful).  Be persistant, you'll get that weight where you want it to be.

Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul.  Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
