WOW! Go Murray!!! You're going to be hitting the Bay trail in no time at all, and inspiring everyone along the way. I'm so happy you are doing so well.

Leyla thanks for the pupdate! He's such a strong and remarkable guy!

Speaking of getting around, how about a dog stroller for him? They make the Booyah or Burley strollers for big dogs and they are sooo helpful in the city. As long as you have downstairs parking and can leave it in a garage (they're too wide to fit through typical apartment doorways), it could be really helpful to assist him in getting around the city. Watch Wednesday's news blog post for a round-up on strollers.

Thank you so very much!! We were looking into a wagon but did not know about the stroller! I'll for sure check that out!

I'm jealous you live in SF! Admin and I started out in a cute apartment at 24th & Cabrillo. I used to live on Haight & Belvedere! Miss that place.

Actually we no longer live in SF but my husband works there - runs an outdoor fitness company there and one of his classes is every Saturday at Baker Beach where we take Murray and our Corgi, Mabel, and they would do the beach and trail workouts with us! 😀 I'll post some pics of him at the workouts. He's definitely the mascot and everyone loves him! I did live in SF before though. I love the Richmond district and Cole Valley! We were in similar neighborhoods! Started off in Baker Beach at Pershing and Lincoln, then lived in Cole Valley on Clayton and Frederick. I miss living in SF too. My sister still lives there on Frederick and Cole so we go there almost weekly and it's nice to go out on Saturdays for the beach workouts. We've been living out in the east bay in Pleasant Hill (near Walnut Creek) for the past 4 years. Having a stroller will definitely allow us to take Murray back out to Baker Beach with more ease and he can still feel like he is participating in the workouts haha.

Hi and welcome.

I just wanted to throw out another rehab place to consider: Holistic Veterinary Care in Oakland.  My little rear amp Tripawd hurt her hip a year ago and my vet recommended the place you posted, Canine Rehab Center in Walnut Creek.  I think they were out at least two months when I called so I searched for another place.  I was able to get Elly into the Oakland practice in a couple weeks. I was pleased with our vet Dr. Megan Buchanan, and the service we got there.  Elly went in twice week for 5 or 6 weeks for treatment and we got a home exercise program.  It was a year ago so who knows what the wait time is now but it might be worth a call if you want to get started sooner.

I'm in the East Bay so traffic was sometimes a problem (of course!) and parking could be a bit tricky.  It's amazing to me that there are so few rehab places around here.

Oh how nice you guys still have connections there and get to just be tourists and have fun. We would love to see photos! Murray's fan club will be so excited to see him again. Yay for another NorCal member!

I'll second Karen's recommendation for that vet rehab practice. Another member here, Ralph, our board member, lives in Oakland and has taken his Tripawds there in the past. Really great place and worth the drive.

Hi Karen! Thank you so much for the warm welcome and rec!

Holistic Veterinary Care sounds amazing. I will for sure give them a call to inquire but Murray gets pretty anxious at the vet, so we don't even know how well it will work out for him going into any facility regularly. We were willing to go further out but because Canine Rehab Center had an opening we were happy to take the appointment and we're hoping we'll be able to go in for a few visits then do most of it on our own from home. We were taking him to UC Davis for a 6 week chiropractic & massage program last year through their school of integrative medicine, just for routine maintenance as we were running regularly and we wanted to make sure his body was okay as he was getting older. He comes from a family of malamutes that actually pull sleds - unlike him who has turned into a California dog lol but he does love running - and our breeder would take the dogs in for regular chiropractic massage and it helped so much. We only made it to 2 visits and they determined it was just too stressful on him for them to do any work at the facility so they decided no chiropractic work and just gave us the massage & exercise program to do ourselves at home LOL. It worked out really well actually and he was moving so much better, but after that experience, we are trying to stay closer to home to avoid making the long drive out for them to only send us home, and also I think it would be really challenging to coordinate going out to Oakland between my husbands and my schedule along with the horrible traffic (I work out in Pleasanton and he works out in SF). We are also on a waitlist with another Rehab Vet who actually used to work at Canine Rehab Center and started her own practice in Concord. She does house calls which would be the most ideal for Murray but I'll still see what Holistic Veterinary Care has in terms of availability. At the end of the day, we would ideally like to get him started on a program sooner than later.

It's amazing to me that there are so few rehab places around here.

So true! When we were looking for rehab last year, I was also amazed at how difficult it is to get into these centers! Back then Canine Rehab Center had closed their waitlist so I was shocked we even got in for September. UC Davis was the only one that actually had availability to take us in at the time! Thanks again! Really appreciate the recommendation. 🙂 I'll let you guys know what they say!

Yay NorCal! 😀

Thanks for the second on Karen's rec! I'll reach out to them today to inquire. 🙂

Today is Murray's 4 week tripawdversary! I'll post a video below from our walk yesterday. He was ready to run and wanted to keep going. Literally dug his heels in because he did not want to turn back! smiley5smiley4

Here's Murray ready to run to the trail yesterday and (do his business on our neighbor's trash can which I did not let him do lol). He really wanted to keep going but I had us turn back where the video ended and after we returned home he immediately laid down and took a nap for a couple hours.  sp_hearticon2

Mr. Spunky You GO (but not on the trash can lol!).

He's moving really well and looking so full of energy. That rest after the big outing will do him so much good.

Elly has severe anxiety and fear issues which is one reason I didn't take her to rehab earlier.  I wanted to but I thought the stress would be worse than the good.  The injury forced us into it and it actually went pretty well.  I couldn't go into the treatment room with her which is what I was worried most about but she handled it fine.

For comparison, during Covid Elly had an eye vet appointment and I couldn't go in with her.  I had some issues with the payment app and they wouldn't bring her out until I paid so she ended up in there for about 30 minutes.  She was so stressed that she slept for a day and a half!

And yes, I'm going to a different eye vet now!

Maybe someone told you this already but there is a group of us who get together in Mill Valley a couple times of year.  We will next get together in the fall so if you are interested keep an eye on the Party Fourm.

I'm so happy to hear it worked out well at rehab! We got lucky with our vet where they let my husband sit in there with Murray to help keep him calm. At UC Davis they would not let us in the treatment room either but it did not end up working for us. Sending big hugs to Elly!

I did not know about the Mill Valley meet up! Thanks for letting me know, I'll definitely keep an eye out on the Party Forum!! sp_hearticon2

Thank you so much for the encouraging words and for sharing his reel on IG! He is starting to do his Malamute wooing in the morning that he used to do when he was ready to go out for a run! We are still only doing runs around the cul-de-sac but I think tomorrow I'll try to go a little further!
