My beautiful Sophie was also diagnosed with the beginning stages of lung mets yesterday.  Sophie was doing so well, it is such a shock to us.  I was convinced that she was going to go on forever....

Unfortunately she has also developed a spinal issue and without performing an MRI, they will not know whether it is spinal cancer met or disc disease of some sort.

She is in quite a bit of pain with her spine and we don't want to put her through any more surgery, so there's no point doing the MRI to establish a possible diagnosis.

We are going to try her on Pred, starting Sunday to see if that is able to help with infllammation that may be causing the pain.  The pain meds alone (Tramadol and Gabapentin) aren't really doing the job.  She was on Previcox for 2 weeks, but that didn't seem to help her.

If anyone has gone through a similar situation or has any advice, please let me know.

We are going to try to keep her as comfortable as possible until we have to say goodbye, which will be soon if the Pred doesn't help.

Thank you, Toni & Sophie (7 1/2 year old Cattle Dog Mix)

So sorry to hear about Sophie's diagnosis. Cancer sucks and there just isn't a nice way to say it. Hopefully the pred will help ease some of the inflammation. I didn't deal with this type of issue, but hopefully someone will check in that can offer better advice. Possibly massage could help some?

Will be thinking of you. Take care-

Sophie, we've otta' get you feeling better girl!

Yeah, like Luanne said, the pred , once she's been on it a bit should help. Massage and acu ture also as a possiblity.

Did she do anything that could have pulled a muscle, pi ched a nerve ....anything that could cause a slipped disc. etc.?

You are dealing with a lot right now, but try ot to think the worse. The back problems may be completely unrelated to the mets.

How is her overall attitude? Eatng, drkng, tail wagging and lots of kisses?

As you know, tis whole journeyis about being more like your dog...livingin the moment and nkt worrying about a thing! Soie doesn't care about any new diafnosis and seems to be thoroughly enjoying all the loving and spoilng you can give 24/7!!

Let NOTHING rob you of your tme together NOW. There was a great quote on an olderpost y Shelby's mom..."When you sfart missing what isn't gone, then you lose what is still left."

We would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see some photos of Sophie! If you look on here, there are links that sow you how to do that. You can post from photoucket

We're all keeping paws crossed over here. unless you find out otherwise, it may indeed be something massage, acupu ture AND pred. can help wkth. YShe will let you kow if the massage ks u comforable so I would be real gentle.

Qnd waaaaay to go Sophie!! You've got a lot of ampuversaries under your little "puppy belt" and we're looking forward to many more!clap

Extra treats for Sophie to ight.....and brave' strong mom gets extra chocolate!

Please keep us posted...and Pictures please!!

This disease isn't fair.  It's not right.  I'm SO sorry.  Awful news, really.  Really.  We all, especially your dearest, take comfort knowing she's in good hands.  You guys will have some long, heart to hearts these next few days and she'll let you know what she wants.  She's a trooper, though, that's for sure!  HUGS to whole pack.

~ Katy & Jackson

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12.  Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ!  No side effects.  We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments.  He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors!  Our love. Our funny little guy!

Toni & Sophie, my heart breaks for you, I can only imagine how devastated you are and I'm really sorry. The spinal issue is a tough one for sure. Your pain management plan sounds very much like what others have done in your situation and all I can offer is, take it day by day and see how she does. This post, Penny Jars Measure Quality of Life, can help you right now.

And of course, we are all here for you, please don't hesitate to post or ask any questions OK? We are thinking of you and sending lots of love.
