Baden is 5months a tripawd. Recovery, relearning & strengthing have gone extremely well. He actually hasn't shown any interest in the stump since the stiches came out. Until now that is, In the past few days I have noticed him licking the bottom of the stump. I looked & saw nothing that should any signs of something wrong. Last night our younger dog, began sniffing & licking Baden's stump. This morning I noticed that there is now a raw spot that is slightly bleeding. Obviously from licking it. What I don't know is what is going on? The last time he licked to it was raw was right before the amputation. I'm not looking for definite answers just hoping for some insight.
Thanks
Hey Baden, I hope it's nothing but just in case your Momma wants some reading, this is what happened when I had an issue with my amputation site. Yours could also be a pressure sore from sitting funky on it.

With Fizzle's who was a nightmare with stitches and had smashed up around 3 Flower Pots one of which she smashed to pieces on my leg !!!! Cow Bag
In the end we used Bi~Carbonate of Soda which is the white cooking powder used for Biscuits
Look on my site http://zena.tri.....wds.com/ for the full story
I'd definitely film his reaction as Fizzly tasted it and her entire nose scrunched up and she actually shuddered !!!
Give it a try as it stopped Fizz chewing her incision virtually instantly
take care and hope this helps
love zena and Fizzles xoxox

I tasted it by accident one day and I figured that it may work !! My daughter Emma didn't believe me until I made her taste it and her reaction was exactly the same as Fizzle's very Funny to watch !!!
It was a case of it may work or it may not work ??? It worked and as it's dry it doesn't affect the incision and its easy to put on, but it definitely worked with Fizz Instantly !!
But Milly our other Miracle dog smashed her entire palate through into her nasal cavity, though she is healthy it has lead to her not being able to taste anything and She will eat Bi~Carbonate of Soda like it is Cheese cake, so God Help us if she ever gets stitches we will have to sellotape her mouth shut
Zeus' brother, Merlin, had a similar issue after TPLO surgery. In his case, it was a tiny spot at the incision that just refused to heal and seemed to cause him discomfort. It was almost like something poking him as you could see him flinch and then immediately nudge and lick at the spot. It turned out to be the internal stitches. When they tied the final knot, they left too much of the stitch (kinda like when you tie your shoe and have the little parts of the lace sticking out) and it was in fact poking him and not allowing that part of the incision to close. Our regular vet (not the surgeon) mentioned that they have seen that happen before so she reopened the incision a little and cut that part of the stitch closer and then it started to heal.
I have also heard of dogs being allergic to the internal stitches. Maybe something to consider?
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...
