One year post amp check up today. I've been dreading it. I wouldn't even allow myself to HOPE that he'd make the 1 year ampuversary mark. But here we are. Miraculously.
Last night, I was talking to a friend whose dog is suffering from cancer in his nasal passages. The outlook is grim, but my friend is making the best of every day that they still have together. I confided in him my fear of bad news at the one year check up. He said, "then don't go."
But this morning, I decided that we should go. I want to be strong...like my dog.
Rumbles waited impatiently while the vet first examined our new kitten. The whole time, I was telling myself to skip the xray. Just tell the vet you don't want it. He's not coughing or anything. Better not to know until there are symptoms. What's the point, really?
Then the kitty was done and it was Rumbles' turn. I took a deep breath and answered the vets questions one by one. I let them take him for chest x-rays and fear filled my body. I took the kitten out of her carrier and snuggled with her, but I was really only thinking about Rumbles.
The vet came back in, "Good news. His lungs are perfect!" I started to cry and told him that I had been bracing myself for bad news. He said, "I know. Me too. But it's great news. He's a wonderful dog and I'm so happy to see these clear x-rays today".
Me, too. Me, too. Me, too.
BEST UPDATE EVER!!!! Rumbles, I just LOVE you and I am so very glad you and your mom god such wonderful news.
Zeus was a Husky mix diagnosed with Osteosarcoma at age 11. A visible lung met and suspicious spot on his liver meant a poor prognosis-six weeks was our vet's best guess. We decided to fight for our boy and his right front leg was amputated on 12/1/11. We did six rounds of chemo, changed his diet and spoiled him completely rotten. We were blessed with 10 great months after diagnosis. Against the odds, the lung met remained a single met and grew very little over those months. A wonderful furbaby with the most gentle spirit, he fought with a strength that we never imagined he possessed. We have no regrets...

Jackie, Angel Abby & MBBunny Rita's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Wow Rumbles!!!! CONGRATULATIONS-- I agree with Zeus, best update ever. I hope you celebrated the happy news with a treat (and a nice glass of wine for mama-- but maybe the latter was needed before the appointment...)
Scout: January 31, 2002 to November 7, 2011
Scout's diagnosis was "poorly differentiated sarcoma"; amputation 1/11/2011. Scout enjoyed 9 fantastic years on 4 legs and 9 glorious months on 3 legs. If love alone could have saved you…
Wine for everyone1 Great news, Rumbles — another one for the good guys ...
Beth, Spirit Smilin' Sammy and MB Wiggly Wrigely
Smilin' Sammy, March 16, 2004 – Dec. 5, 2011
Golden retriever, diagnosed with osteosarcoma in September 2010 — right front leg amputated November 2010. He fought valiantly to stay with us; but a second diagnosis of osteosarcoma, this time in his left front leg, was more than our golden warrior could overcome. He loved his pack — and everyone else he met.
We loved him even more.
Thanks for the pennies, Sammy. They helped.
Super wonderful news Rumbles! We are so proud of you! And are so very happy!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
