My boy Bloo had a rear amp a week ago today. He has been doing well and the wound looks to be healing nicely. He is getting around fine and has been eating and going pee and poo. Resting a lot but seems to be down and a bit depressed. Sometimes he has episodes of muscle spasms in the thigh of the leg that was amputated, full on muscle contractions and tremoring spasms. He even pants sometimes which tells us he is in pain. He is on metacam and gabapentin as well as 2 antibiotics. Has had no problem taking them or keeping them down. Last night he was having a very bad time with the spasms and was obviously hurting. Then he got up and threw up his dinner. This is the first time he has been sick to his stomach through the whole ordeal. He almost never throws up. He is eating the same stuff he has been eating the last two weeks doing well on. Just wondering why all the sudden he is being sick. Then just now today he threw up his lunch out of nowhere. Not even having spasms just seems extra dopey today. Anyone had this happen? Should I be concerned? Any advice?
Thanks,
Bloo's Momma
Hi Bloo's Momma,
Welcome. Please consider registering as a member so your posts won't need approval. How come Bloo had an amputation? What's his age/breed type? Just curious.
I would let your vet know what's going on. Take a look at Bloo's stools and notice if they are slimy or black, if so that could be a GI issue caused by the Metacam. Could he have gotten into anything like human Christmas treats? What does the vomit look like? Anything other than food that you noticed? Notate as many symptoms as you can before calling so you have a better idea what to discuss.
Gabapentin makes some dogs dopey. There are other pain meds and relief methods you can try, check out this post about pain management , it will give you some ideas to discuss with your vet:

I hope this helps. Let us know what the vet says.
