Hi Butch the Dogue de Bordeauxs mum here. Butch had his amp on Aug 5 his hair has grown back around the wound area but not along the spine. He's bald and a bit flaky from the start of the tail to the middle of his back in about a 2" width strip. I've started massaging Aloe Vera into his bald strip as well as using sun protection when he's outside. We've had a longer than usual winter here in Australia so I doubt that it's sun damage yet. Odd that is should only be along the spine, anyone else had the same problem?

After Cali's amputation, it took a while for her fur to grow back. Actually, we are more than a year post now, and her guard hair coat is still not fully back. As I recall, it came in better in some spots than others. Just give it time. I think the aloe would be really soothing - you could also try a bit of olive oil if it gets dry.
Hi Annie and Butch...I have not had that problem unfortunately, but maybe Butch has developed a skin condition that is coincidental in timing. I would suggest having that looked at by your Vet. My dad's dog had some similar issues and symptoms and found out that it was skin cancer (very treatable)...not saying that is what it is...but since we are not doctors, I would have them just take a look if possible.
Keep us posted and we hope that everything turns out OK.
Much love,

Annie,
Butch could just be having patchy regrowth due to chemo treatments. You might want to consider having a thyroid panel done (should include a TSH level and free T4). My Bordeaux Loki is the same age and has had thyroid disease for 1 1/2 years. Hypothyroidism is common in these guys and is easily treated with thyroid repalcement hormones.

Some dogs take longer for their fur to grow back, some take much longer.
Check out some more comments on my blog post about fur regrowth after amputation.
