Hi everyone,

Hopefully if the application process goes as it should I will be adopting a tripod pup in a few weeks. I was wondering what I can do to help make life easier for him in my home. I have already read about getting a food/water bowl stand, and a good harness. He is a tripod with a missing front leg. Most of my home is carpeted except the kitchen hallway and bathrooms. I have another dog currently and know all the ins and outs of dog owning, just not sure about any additional information I can use for a tripod. Thanks in advance! Any advice is welcome! sleepy

Hello and welcome, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.

What kind of pup? How old? How big?

Good for you for giving this boy a chance, you will be rewarded many times over!

Tripawds can do pretty much anything a four legger can do... but that doesn't mean they should.  Core strength is really important for Tripawds and you want to keep him on the light side weight wise.

Once you have him (all paws crossed here!) you might think about a visit with a rehab vet.  They can do an evaluation and help you develop a program to keep him strong.  And we have a reimbursement program here that might pay for your first visit!

I adopted my current Tripawd Elly when she was 10 months old.  She was hit by a car at 7 months and lost a rear leg as a result.  She is a little Pug mix who weighs about 15 pounds.  She is a happy, healthy 3.5 year old now.  We do lots of food games and puzzles as well as balance exercises.  We also do Nose Work, and excellent sport for Tripawds!

Keep us posted on progress with the adoption.

Hi Karen,

He is a little under 2 years old, and is somewhere in the 30s in terms of weight. I'm not sure what kind of dog he is, but he is a mix of some sort. He was found as a stray and had been shot in the leg, then someone tied the leg to a makeshift splint that ended up almost severing the leg, so when the rescue got him he needed it to be amputated.

Thank you for letting me know about the reimbursement program! That would be a fantastic help as I am a teacher, and things are always tight on a teacher budget. I am having my home check next week, and then once I am cleared will be put on the adopter list, and can hopefully get him soon. I will keep you posted

Sincerely,

Jaedi
