I got an email from Marty telling me that she will call me...but hasn't as of yet. I mentioned flying, but the concern I guess is that his temp drops to 40 degrees when he is stressed...Deborah (at St. Francis) thought that the caravaning would be more stressful for him...getting in and out of several cars, different people and having to overnight. Is there any medicine that he can take for flying that will help him be less anxious? I have no idea - I have never flown a dog anywhere...UGH!!! We have this wonderful place for him to go and we're stuck on how to get him there - I'll keep on staying pawsitive.

Dogs are never sedated for flying, and I think some airlines actually stipulate this. It's been a while but I have shipped a dog and a cat, and both times was told NO sedation. Both times they were just fine, too - rescues, not my own personal animals. I've also helped transport/caravan dogs pulled from shelters and various situations...some are stressed, sure. But it's better than the alternative. And much easier if a crate is used.
It's not really fun, but stress is not always an awful thing that must be avoided at all costs....way OT but google early neurological stimulation or super dog program for examples of when stress can be a very beneficial thing.
I heard from Best Friends today....they sent a bunch of international transport links. Hope this will be of some use to Patricia. As for the stress issue during transport--there are drugs and there are also homepathic remedies to reduce stress. I use Acepromazine (the big guns-only when absolutely necessary) and some homeopathic drops for Codie Rae when we are car traveling since she gets pretty stressed in the car.
Here are the links Best Friends sent. Lots of avenues to explore. But it seems that the main issue might be whether or not Sebastian will be able to stand the transport process. He has got to be one tough dog to have made it this far. I bet with some drugs and careful attention he would make the trip oK. If he cant be sedated while flying then he probably should not fly. The links (some we know about already):
Here are some organizations who are involved in coordinating animal transfer from Mexico to the U.S. Perhaps one or more of them could offer assistance or would have contacts, suggestions, etc for you. I don't have personal experience with them, but rather found them via the internet.

Compassion Without Borders
The main focus of this organization is to alleviate the suffering of unwanted companion animals in Mexico and other low resource regions through international rescue efforts and extensive spay/neuter campaigns.
They coordinate dog rescues from Mexico to various placement agencies in California.

His temperature raises to 40C that is 100F
Has it been figured out yet how to get Sebastian out of Mexico- or is that still the problem. I am having my sister check with her rescue friends-
is there fundraising that needs to be done to cover the cost of getting him out?
Does the HSUS or ASPCA have anything they can do?

Hi Seanne - I think we are still trying to figure out how to get him out of Mexico...Deborah Parker at the St. Francis Animal Sanctuary is hoping that he will be sent to her...I have been copied on some emails between her and Marty discussing some questions that Patricia had about where he would be living and some information about Deborah and her Sanctuary as well as transportation. I was letting them correspond since they have the information and was just being kept in the loop probably because I made the connection. I got a note from Deborah last night asking if there was any progress. Marty - where are we with this? Does someone need to research the transportation by vehicle? THANK YOU CODIE RAE for all that information.
I have offered to pay for his flight to Ohio before we knew of a concern about flying (which I will still do if we fly him)...I will still contribute money to vehicle transportation (cost of the airline ticket)...but if we go that route, we may have to do some fundraising because I think it will be more expensive than the airline ticket. With such a sweet face, I can't imagine that it would be too hard to fundraise for that!
I think if we can hear from Marty what we are waiting on...is it just the transportation to Ohio?...we can go from there. I'll send her a note.
Paws still crossed.

Ok - I will keep checking for progress- I was hoping to have a connection to HSUS via my sister, but didn't - the gal she knew is no longer there.
Heather I think that is wonderful you have connected him to St Francis- You are the greatest- it looks like a wonderful place.
Let me know if his expenses need some help- I would be happy to beg my friends for help- I think it is so great he is getting a chance.

Hi, I posted earlier but probably I press something wrong, it did not show!
I wanted some info on the flight procedures does someone know?
thanks we r getting there!!!!!
Hi Marty - Deborah seems to know about the procedures - she has flown many animals to her Sanctuary...can you connect directly with her via email as you guys have been?
How is Sebastian doing? Do you have any updates on him?
Thanks Seanne for the offer...any extra $$ for this guy as Deborah cares for him, I know is appreciated. I know that her Sanctuary is a 501(c)3, so all donations/contributions are tax deductible.
Paws crossed!!!
