One that's SIMPLE, SIMPLE, SIMPLE! One that is set up to bec totally copatible with tripawd website....one that already comes with the "stuff" on it so you can load AND watch pics and videos.....one that's compatible to what you need to "imbed" lin,s to notos' etc. I notice that many ysers here don't even have to show a lik...the pics and videos show up directly on their posts. One that doesn't have stuff on it that cannot be used by this websie.

I don't need it for anything but this site, a couple of emails here and there and some Amazon and some Google

Oh yes! And a view finder that lets you look at yor subject as opposed to havi g to face the scree to your suvject without havi g any idea what you are seeing!

As much as this "tablet" and I don't have a good relatio sip, "everyone" tells me...that for me...they and ipods, are easier to use than a "regular" computer. ButI also need so ethi g with a good keyboard! NO! I don't expect it to type for me but it shouldn't have missi g "n" and put "m" when I hit space bbar!

Does such a thing exist?

Something less than the cost of an a putation would be nice too!
And reference Michelle's post.....where is the "Media" button...not seeing it on tablet.

Mucho thanko!

Well...I don't think you necessarily need a new tablet. As far as "people saying" that iPads, etc. are easier to use than a computer, I beg to differ. My family has a whole bunch of computers, and I prefer my laptop (not a Mac) to anything else, including our iPad. The iPad is dandy sometimes, but I can't type on it. Great for playing games, but I don't think you're doing that.

I think you need to find a good teacher to help you. I do NOT recommend something like "the geek squad" or any computer store's instruction. Do you have access to a teenager?

I am a bit unclear on what you have right now. Do you only have a tablet, or do you have a laptop or desktop computer? If you only have the tablet, what kind is it?

I want to help you with this, Sally. As much as I enjoy what your posts often say (or don't say), I know it's got to be frustrating when you open your virtual mouth and only some of what you want to say comes out! Tell me what you've got and then we can go from there.

Tablets, such as an iPad, are hard to type on!  Awful, really.  That's why people get an external, blue-tooth keyboard.  Don't know what that means?  Go to Staples and ask.  Or Best Buy.  Or some random 12 year old.

I'm a fan of Google Chromebooks!  I don't have one, but I did get my father one.  It's a little limiting, because there are loads of programs you cannot install.  BUT, for the basics: surfing the web, coming to Tripawds.com, chatting online here, sending emails (especially EASY if you've got a Gmail account.  If you don't, join the revolution!), watching YouTube videos.  They cost like $250.  I say, get it at Best Buy b/c they have a fairly good return policy.  Then, pay someone to show you how to use it.  Check 'em out!  Here's the link to it at Best Buy and the link to the company site:

We don't have a tablet but I'm trying to convince Admin we need to get one so we can see what others are seeing when they log into Tripawds from theirs. The closest thing we have right now is our iphone.

From what folks have told us, a keyboard makes things infinitely easier when using a tablet. However, that won't solve your problem about not being able to see certain aspects like the media button. I believe this is what Michelle is talking about:

MediaButton_zps6d4c633d.jpg.jpgImage Enlarger

The tree icon on the left is where you paste the URL for a photo you've uploaded somewhere. The filmstrip icon on the right is for pasting the URL of a video, but you don't need to paste it there, just paste the YouTube URL right into your post on it's own separate line and it should show up.

The reason you don't see these icons isn't because of your tablet. No tablets or phones will see these, it's a forum functionality that isn't available in that format yet. Soon hopefully but for now you can only see them and have these options when you are using a laptop or desktop (as far as I know, Admin may correct me on this!). We hope the forum developers will be adding this soon so hang in there!

No! Please don't do anything about the typing! The way it is is much too entertaining to change anything. We love it!

Kathi and Murphy

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Silly Jerry... the rich text (TinyMCE) editor shown in his picture is not loaded on mobile devices and tablets. Only the plain text editor is available for iOS and other mobile browsers. Until better browser compatibility is available for all mobile devices, no tablet will have the option to use the TinyMCE editor when visiting these forums.

So, in short, the best device is one you are comfortable using. Any new platform will come with it's own learning curve. We are a bit biased toward Apple products, but it sounds like any PC would suit your needs. Most come preloaded with all the necessary software, much of which you don't need and can actually slow down the machine. A basic Windoze laptop with Firefox or Chrome for web browsing and Gmail or Thunderbird for email should do the trick. Open Office is an open source suite of "Office" applications. All of these programs are free.this helps!

Sally,

I have a ton of desktops, 2 laptops, and an iPad.  My favorite is my new laptop that is a pc laptop and tablet combined.  It can take pictures and videos.  It can lay flat like a tablet without the keyboard.  It can also sit in a "clam shell" with the keyboard as a laptop so it's easier to type on.  It's not too small and not too large.  I love it.  Only thing, for internet connectivity outside my home, I have a mifi (something that lets me get an internet signal).  My iPad had a built in 3G connection so that wasn't necessary with it.  So it is the compromise to both worlds.  It is the Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13.  If you are in the mode of wanting a new device, you may want to check it out.  Oh and by the way, it works great with the tripawds site.  For the browser, which is importatnt in how you view the site, I use Google Chrome.

Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury.  Her amp was on 10/1/12.  She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera.  We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.

Ah, I'm more clear on what you're looking for, Sally.  If you want something that'll take pictures and videos and type easily, a tablet is what you want.  Taking pics and videos with a laptop (that is, with a connected keyboard), it kind of awkward.  Here is what I'm thinking: take your Acer tablet to some electronics store and buy a bluetooth keyboard (I confirmed your tablet is bluetooth-enabled) and have them set it up for you!  The other option is Karma's excellent idea of the Lenovo Yoga!  I was thinking the same thing, Karma!  I'm a Lenovo girl myself.  The thing about the Yoga, however, is it is much more pricey than a keyboard.  It'll also be a new operating system for you to learn.  The bonus about the Yoga is that you'll have all the functionality of any laptop (ie, you'll see this "rich text editor" that Admin pointed out and Jerry provided a picture of) with the ease of a tablet (b/c the keyboard folds back onto the back of the screen!).  It doesn't look like the Yoga has a rear-facing camera, though.  For taking pics and videos of Hannah, having a camera on the front and rear would be ideal!  I think I read there are some new products like the Yoga that will have a rear-facing camera.  Be watching!  In the meantime, I'd encourage you to stick with what you're used to and get a bluetooth keyboard.  Get one from somewhere with a good return policy (in case you don't like it) and get lessons on how to use it.

Enjoy.
