Has something changed with the process of adding photos on the blogs in the past few weeks?  I haven't posted in a few weeks, but just added a post to Nova's blog.  I decreased the file size in advance of the photos, but when I clicked to add a photo there was all sorts of stuff I had never seen before.  The process was VERY different than it was a few weeks ago.  The pictures came out HUGE and I can't figure out why. I clicked on each photo and it allowed me to reduce it t0 60% but they were still huge.  Perhaps I uploaded them too huge to start with. Jim, what is the correct resolution and size to make the photos before uploading again?  I know you've told me before, but I am having trouble locating the info.

Also, is there an easier way to upload a photo quickly without the long process that is there now.  It seems to want to put everything off in a gallery somewhere that I can't even find. I tried to re-upload the pictures, which only created duplicates in the gallery, and I could not even figure out how to delete the pictures in the gallery.  Where did this gallery thing come from?  None of the previous pictures I posted on other dates are in it, and just a few short weeks ago the process was clean and simple.

Am I missing something?

Like what? Nothing has changed since Nova's blog was created. I just tested your Media Library image file upload and all seems to be functioning as expected. What do you see as different?

FYI: I recommend users ignore the Gallery tab when uploading and inserting images into posts as it is really better suited for PhotoBlogs and there is very little support and documentation. Here is a decent explanation of Wordpress Gallery function.

Perhaps the difference you noticed a difference in in the interface between uploading images directly to your Media Library vs. while editing a post. I recommend the former to avoid any confusion with the Gallery tab. Uploading all your images first directly via the Media -> Add New tab and then inserting them into your posts from the Add Media -> Media Library may help.

If this doesn't clear things up, please clarify what it is that is different. Sorry for the inconvenience. Thanks for asking!

Point of clarification: As described in the linked Gallery explanation above ...

When uploading images from within the post editor – as opposed to directly via the Media -> Add New tab  – the images become associated with that post, so they can be embedded in a thumbnail gallery.

Uploading images directly to your Media Library before drafting/editing will make them available to any post and make the Gallery metadata unnecessary.

Hope this helps!

Further clarification: I followed a link in that article I mentioned above and found these instructions to avoid adding images to a WordPress gallery. It really is as simple as I described – Just do not upload images whilst editing a post. Upload them directly to your Media Library first.
