Betaman, Admin or Barney - help!
The screen looks much prettier - like those little blue and white tabs.
But as you may know, my screen has been kind of a mess for I never really sorted it out after you 'promoted' me. I have relied on the forum tab at the bottom of the page where you can see threads that have been recently updated in red (and black for those that have not changed). Now that is gone! Can I get that back or do I have to figure out another way to uncover the new posts without searching threads one by one?
Wow! Everything is looking and working great on the forums!!! Way to go!!!

I'm with Tazzie on this one. I know there is probably nothing to be done except learn to live with the new, but it seems really cumbersome to me also. Are there any tips or tricks that make it easier to navigate?

@ tazzie and hugapitbull: We removed the recent posts drop down menu at the bottom in an effort to reduce database queries. And, it is totally redundant when viewing the most recent posts at the top.
First, do you not see the section at the top of the main forums page titled "Most Recent Topics With Unread Posts"? If not, try this:
- Visit your main Tripawds dashboard.*
- Click on the Forums Tab -> Admins
- Check the option Display Unread Posts on Front Page
- Update Options
- Click Go To Forum to confirm most recent posts now display above the groups on the main forum page.
Second, do you use the Admin Bar? This provides another option for viewing unread posts, approving any that need moderation, and posting quick replies. If not, try this:
- Visit your main Tripawds dashboard.*
- Click on the Forums Tab -> Admins
- Check the option Display the Admin Bar
- Update Options
- Click Go To Forum to confirm the admin bar now displays above all topics on every forum page.
*For any moderators with their own blogs, visit your dashboard and click my Blogs to switch to the Tripawds dashboard. The dashboard can be accessed via any Site Admin link in the sidebar throughout Jerry's blog pages, or any Tripawds blog with the Meta widget enabled.
Enabling both these options I describe above will give you access to the admin bar functions, and display most recent posts. Enabling only the latter will display the admin new posts queue (if enabledand not using admin bar), otherwise it will show the latest posts. Selecting "Display Admin Bar Fixed at Top" will keep the admin bar at the top of your browser window at all times, though it will scroll behind the header image at the top.
Finally, here are various methods for help navigating the forums and finding favorite topics.
Please let me know if this helps. If you still want the drop down menu back, and others agree, we'll see what we can do. As usual though, it is a fine line we walk between features and performance. Thank you for your continued support!

Crapola. I see most recent posts, but it lists about four and I may or may not be interested in those. Because I had lost the view I used to have (pre-moderator stage, I can't even remember what it looked like), I have relied entirely on the drop down menu that you mentioned. Without it, things are currently a pain. I guess I will have to figure out what a dashboard is after all, sigh, and try to get my pre-moderator screen display back. Let me know if you figure it out Trouble.
I admit to being less motivated to figuring out computer thingies when it is non-work R & R time (as much as doggy cancer can be R & R ).

That is what you call your "pre-moderator screen". Follow my directions and you will probably find that the Show Unread Posts option is checked. It is the same for all member, moderators or not. The list shows the last 5 unread posts. We reduced this number from ten a few months ago.
If I can find somewhere else to limit queries, I'll re-enable the drop down menu. Stay tuned.

First let me say I have not yet tried the settings you suggest, just wanted to pass on this info.
I can see the 'most recent posts' IF I'm not logged in. Once I login it goes away. I did enable the RSS feed for all groups and that is working for me. It appears I see all new posts and can choose which one I wish to read. That may be an easy option for some folks.

WordPress MU v. 2.9.1 is now in effect.
Stay tuned for Simple:Press Forums upgrade coming next week.
