Hi Jerry's dad (and mom),

I'd like to put in a photo gallery about Jake's life into my Misty themed blog. Am I able to do that? I didn't see the controls for that on my dashboard... Something that has thumbnails, and then when you click on them, a larger image appears in a slideshow... Hope it's possible!

Angel Jake's Mom

Jake, 10yr old golden retriever (fractured his front right leg on 9/1, bone biopsy revealed osteosarcoma on 9/10, amputation on 9/17) and his family Marguerite, Jacques and Wolfie, 5yr old german shepherd and the newest addition to the family, Nala, a 7mth old Bengal mix kittie. Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!

I was looking around on the Tripawds site and saw that you used Next Gen Gallery for your slideshows. Am I able to download the Plug In for that in my MistyLook blog theme, so I can make my own slide shows? Or is that something that you can do on your end, as the Administrator?

I also saw that you use PicLanesLite... which gives really cool slideshows... Again, am I able to get that in my blog?

No one has responded to my question about adding a photo gallery into my blog page yet. So does that mean it's not possible on  my end?

Too bad... because I wanted to add a new page of Jake's life with us... so many pictures and I'd have to make them small enough to fit in, but then they would be too small to see much detail. Maybe I can create that on another website and then just include a link for people to go to? Bummer, I really wanted to keep the page in the Tripawds blog... Frown

Actually, because of some problems with my postings, I was seriously considering never posting again and just going away.  However, because of your courage and love for Jake, I just had to respond to this one.  I understand the desire to keep it on TriPawds blogs, but I started my own personal web site years ago.  I wanted to learn how to create a web site for work and the only way to do so is to just jump in.  By creating your own site, you will have total control of the postings including photos.  My current Internet Service Provider (ISP) gives me 1Gb for each of the screen names I create.  Many of my previous "thumbnails" were compressed too much because of previous limitations.  I know that Jerry would like us to do everything on TriPawds but that also puts significant demands upon resources.  For example, I kept/keep a detailed journal of Cherry's TriPawd Journey.  At first it was extremely detailed and I put it on the internet prior to the TriPawds blogs.  If I had to start today, I probably would do both, the detailed journal where I can keep track of every morsal of food Cherry ate during her worst times, and a more general description of her state on the blog - including such things as her Yellowstone trip.

I am being long winded and did not want to when I started.  If it is a tribute to Jake, I would create a screen name with your ISP, and create his own site just for that purpose.  I created one for Cherry called cherry-journey, but then just folded her journey into our more general site.  This also will provide a direct email box.  You are welcome to visit my general web site as well as the one for Cherry's TriPawd Journey.  They sould be good for at least a few laughs.Laughing

Finally, I am a very introverted private person in spite of what may come across here.  The two exceptions are my dogs, and while in the geyser areas of Yellowstone National Park.  Even my wife, Emily, says that she does not recognize me while I am there.  The point here is that I created very private tributes to "The Girls".  I scanned every photo (the days before digital photography), made a "slide show" movie of all the photos in cronological order, overlayed Simon and Garfunkel songs, and burnt a DVD.  Forever, I will have them.  However, forever, I get tears when ever I hear Simon and Garfunkel - especially "Bookends".  My wife on the other hand, did a scrapbook on her Allie who we lost to cancer in April 2008 - seven months before Cherry's diagnosis.  These two ways are more private but in no way better than a special web page/site dedicated to Jake.

Good Luck and we will be looking for Jake's Memorial.

Bob

Simon and Garfunkel's Bookends -

"Time it was and what a time it was it was,
A time of innocence a time of confidences.
Long ago it must be, I have a photograph
Preserve your memories, they're all that's left you"

OK. We have something going on here... I immediately posted detailed replies to both of your posts above from our quick-reply admin function, but they are not here. Way Confused Sorry for that!

We are testing various Gallery Plugins but none have met our needs for compatibility, functionality, and ease of use. So we have not yet deplayed any Gallery method site wide yet. You will notice in your Media tab, however, that I did activate Flash Photo Gallery on Jake's blog for you to test. This isthe best solution we have found so far, but it is by n means perfect.

You may find that it is not perfect, by any means. You cannot edit a gallery once it has been created. And it shows images at full size, so they may fall outside the gallery window and force thumbnails and gallery navigation outside the content area. But with some fidgeting, it does work beautifully. (Hence the reason we have not deployed it on all blogs!)

You can add images from your Media Library, but I find it works best to upload iamges for the gallery at the actual size you want them to display. See reasoning above. You can also set the size of the gallery by adding height="123px" x width="456px" to the gallery quicktag after its XML id, with 123 & 456 being your desired height/width in pixels. (See wat I mean about ease of use!)

Sorry for the inconvenience, and my lost reply. We are anxiously awaiting an update to this potentially great gallery plugin, and are open to suggestions for others that might meet all our needs. We will not be deploying NextGen site wide here for various technical reason I need not get into here. I look forward to your feedback after trying the FPG plugin.

Thanks Bob and Cherry for your imput... I have a side web design business and was thinking to just start up a slide show for Jake on one of my current sites... and include a link from the Tripawds blog... if I couldn't get something done directly on Jake's Journey...

Admin... thanks for the input and advice... I will definitely try that out... I'll let you know if I have any problems...

I only have experience making websites using Dreamweaver... so for me it's going to be a learning curve... but I am constantly learning... and welcome the challange!

Feel free to ask any questions about the FPG plugin here. Like I said, we arre eager to implement a photo gallery solution here, but not until we find one members can actually use! Thanks in advance for any feedback you can provide.
