Directly linking to an image hosted on Facebook will no longer embed the photo in your forum post. Big surprise.icon_rolleyes

Facebook does, however, now support oEmbed for open embedding of an entire post. Here are instructions for embedding a Facebook post in your forum post to share photos or videos from Facebook.

1. Copy root of the URL for the post.*

2. Paste URL root into forum post on a line by itself

3. Save forum post.

The entire Facebook post will automatically embed in your forum post, including any photo or video and description, with all (content or engagement) links remaining active – to direct you back to Facebook, of course.

*What do you mean by URL Root? smiley5

The complete URL for any Facebook post includes a bunch of variable data (aka: gibberish) that often looks like:

.../?type=3&__xts__%5B0%5D=68.ARCirDPVpimEimOXyWs1ADPF6kZTGUS...

The root of the URL begins with "https" and ends right before the "/?...".

Sure, you can go ahead and use the complete URL, following the instructions above. But none of that gibberish will render properly, and it will display as text after the embedded post. poopicon See examples below.

So, for best results, strip out everything after the root of the post URL, and a nice clean rendering of the post will appear. smiley4

How do I "strip out" everything, you ask?

1. Only select the root section of the URL, ending in the Post ID number – followed by the "/?..." and paste that into your forum post on a line by itself.

2. Or, Copy the complete post URL (because that may be easier). Paste that into your forum post editor, but before saving the post, delete all the "gibberish".

To clarify, you cannot embed only the photo from within a Facebook post, only the entire post. As usual, this may all change in the future. If so, these instructions will be updated accordingly. Oh, and one more thing. Facebook user privacy settings must allow embedding and ensure posts are Public for them to display properly here in the forums.

Clear as mud? smiley16This is why we recommend uploading images to your free Tripawds Blog. Anyone can start a free blog in minutes, and use the Media Library to host images that will always remain online here at Tripawds...
