Ok....reality check setting in..... Jim, thanks for putting this in perspective. Having worked at many trade shows myself (but not planning them like you) I do know how complex and expensive they can be. Oh well, it was a good idea while it lasted. Maybe it's doing more regional types of events or gatherings. I would love to have a tripawd party in LA some time .
Kami (Mackenzie's Mom)
My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Sorry Mac & Kami, but we're not allowed in LA, you guys are boycotting AZ I hear? Really though, anywhere is fine with us as long as we don't have to drive for more than 2 days.
Chuy, showing everyone that Tripawds do everything 3 times better than regular dogs!
I did want to add though - Tana is available for your next major event function! If she didn't do it before, she'd sure make a great event planner for a major corporation! I bet British Petroleum (BP) could sure use her enthusiasm and spirit at their next event!
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Ohhh, we feel so darn LOVED here, thank you! To think that y'all would love to do this sort of thing is such an honor and so exciting.
But drats! Admin Guy's always been the reality checker in this pack, and once again he came through. He's right (ssssh, don't tell him I said that!). A true "convention" takes more money and time than we have right now. Sigh. I was involved with small-scale event planning for a few jobs I had and it's a beast to coordinate, even for just a couple hundred people.
Plus, what would a convention be without Comet? Maybe she could arrive in her own chariot, where she doesn't actually have to mingle with us, but can look down at the crowd and wave?
BUT, having a major event like this has always been one of our goals, whether partnering with another group or doing it ourselves sometime. The thought of having a "Tripawd Olympics" or something of the sort is most definitely on our radar too.
And, just because a glitzy gathering might be out of our range right now, that doesn't mean that we can't continue having regional meet-ups and pawties! Let's keep the enthusiasm going so we can still continue to connect with eachother in pawson.
One more thing; you guys are ALWAYS welcome here at Jerry's place here in Red Feather. While I can't gurantee that Wyatt won't mistake the smaller Tripawds for wild prey, I can guarantee a good time will be had by all. Stop by anytime, the doghouse is always open!

Wyatt and Comet would have to sit in the naughty crate!
BUT a weekend in Vegas would sure be swell if you guys would all gather up and come! Instead of a convention how about a weekend in VEGAS!? IT'S VEGAS! Heck, my friend just came in and got rooms at the Golden Nugget for $39! (I know downtown.)

If I was half as good at planning my life as you guys are at planning a convention/party......well, I can only imagine! Luck is the quality I have relied on. Man I'm fried if it every runs out! Am I correct in assuming a convention is out but a party might still be a reality?
Vegas-- I love to gamble, don't mind a glass of good wine, and never pass up on the opportunity to talk about my pup Fortis.
Colorado--Camping is awesome. Camping, hiking and visiting in Colorado would be fantastic!
I've only been to Vegas once, but LOVE to gamble. We've always headed to the Reno/Tahoe area. I'll certainly try my best to go whever we decide.
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.
The November Five - Spirits Max, Cherry, Tika, Trouble & Nova. 11/2008 - 3/2013 An era ends as Queen Nova crossed the Bridge.
Well, darn ... it was an exciting day.
Ge'Lena - if I ever get to Vegas again (I don't know about that ... it's all so VERY tempting !!) I will certainly look you up if only for a cup of coffee - and I promise not to look at, or talk to CometDog, without ignoring her.
The regional parties sound like they've been a big hit, Jim and Rene. By all means, keep them going ! You have certainly created a fabulous community for all of us. Thank you.

Tana, I say blow your last bit of cash reserves and come! "Someone" here on the boards is coming next week - wish you could be here! We are having a tripawd-less pawty!
And for the real record, I haven't had a drink in years. Not that I can't - I just haven't!

Thanks Ge'Lena - it would be fun ! But - I think I've been fantasizing a bit too much - I better get my feet back on the ground and start pounding the pavement for a job. Have a GREAT dog-less pawty !

OMG...I started reading this thread and the pictures in my mind (you are right, someone has to pick me up!! I don't fly waaaaaa...we could use my car...) but Jim is absolutely right, it would be an unbelievable undertaking....maybe if we started smaller...and I wonder if Animal Planet could be nudged to make an actual show out of it somehow....it would HAVE to suck in more audience than the ones about the things living inside of us...oooooo icky icky......
But my mouth was hanging open...you guys are GOOD....Tana is there a way to put that to work where you are now? holy cow....my mouth is STILL hanging open
You know I was thinking about something else...I'm not sure many of us could travel with our tripawds....unless we had the same set ups like Rene and Jim....the tripawds who have had accidents but not cancer would probably be fine, but I wonder how many of us could do a convention or anything like on the scale we were talking about if our furkids were sick or undergoing treatment or being hard to feed...you know what I mean.
Gosh I hate to sound like a wet blanket, but I think maybe that is why the regional get togethers are easier on THEM but not as much fun to think about to US...ok, i'm a wet blanket...I'm sorry.
Yeah, I suppose you guys are right. I already work 6 days a week to pay for Sadie's vet care, so I guess I for one don't have the time or money for such an endeavor. However, if I hit a big jackpot someday (or the lottery, I'm in a pool for the California lottery) I'll host a convention, party, tripawd olympics, whatever Sadie wants
Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end. On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

OK, I said "bigger" not convention/doggie para-Olympics! Really, I was thinking two or three speakers/sessions tops. I figured we wouldn't have a large group worthy of a celebrity or Las Vegas or lots of sponsors. Just us and speakers/organizations already familiar with the group.
Morning at the park. A break for lunch/nap. Then one or two sessions at the university veternary school. Group dinner with our dogs at an outdoor restaurant. Then maybe a gathering in the morning before everyone heads home. A mini-memorial? Or dinner Friday night, Saturday events, with a wrap up Saturday afternoon. Any speakers would need to be volunteers.
I'd be happy to hit up some folks for donations. Maybe we could have a silent auction as a way to raise funds for the website?
Or, what about tacking our time onto something pre-planned like the Laramie Pet Expo? We had a great Pet Expo here last weekend. Shorty Rossi was there with Hercules!

Definitely I understand travel/financial issues. This would be considered the 2012 family vacation for me. That's why I was thinking of it now. Time to save and everything.
Your ideas are terrific.
I know about the Pet Expo....they look like a lot of fun! This one is actually a nationwide thing, there's one in Denver next week or so. Vendors pay about $500 to exhibit! We thought about having a Tripawds booth there until we heard about the price.
If this is something you would like to take on as a committee chair, I vote "Yeay!" If you want to draft a preliminary logistics plan, I know everypawdy here would be all ears.
Just wanted to mention that one of the most impawtant to consider is the date....we've learned that having a Tripawds pawty in the middle of summer in 90 degree heat is a bad idea, so cooler months would be ideal.
