I have 7 month golden doodle with very little doodle lol, she is about 60 pounds and we love him dearly. When he was about 4 months old we went for a ride in our jeep, and he decided to take a leap, unfortunately , that was not a good idea. He has what they say is Brachial Plexus which means he has stretched the nerves going sown his arm. When he fell he must of stretched out his arm to save himself. Its now been a coupe of months and where we though he would be getting better the arm is starting to dangle. I know its a horrible question but i have been looking at pictures and it seems that amputation is so sad and scary. Would it be best if i put him down to say him this pain? please someone I need some help
Hi Michelle. Welcome! Please consider registering as a member so your future posts won't need approval.
We're sorry to hear about your pup. What's his name?
Before you jump to amputation or even the dreaded euthanasia decision, have you consulted with multiple vets / specialists? If not I recommend getting opinions from an orthopedic surgeon and a certified canine rehab therapist. This may not be as bad as it seems and something that either rehab or surgery can fix.
Amputation is definitely an upsetting decision to have to make, but if you look carefully at our photo and video galleries, you will see that animals don't care they're missing a leg, it's we silly humans who have the problem. But please don't go there yet. Get other opinions and take it from there.

Ditto Jerry! Also, have you ever seen Caesar Milan's show? His own personal pack at his house contains a Greyhound who has four legs but one of those legs is clearly atrophied and not in use ( and not amputated either.)
Also, my own dog CharlieBear has brachial plexus involvement and his leg is in the process of atrophying except for one difference: he is on a pain management regimen which allows him to use his leg. Now we did go to a university teaching hospital and had many, many vets look at him. At some point we may decide on amputation in the future but for now, the pain management regimen is working fairly well. This has been an issue for our dog since BEFORE Thanksgiving.Has your local vet placed him on any sort of pain management plan/meds?
Also, there are many, many folks who will share their various experiences with you. If you are feeling overwhelmed, there is the Helpline here, the chat room , and soooooooo many folks who are lovely and always ready to listen, support you, and help you with their vast knowledge and experience.
Best wishes and congratulations on finding TriPawds Nation!!! Keep us updated when you can and hang in there!
Such great input from Jerry and DaBear! Yes, ditto what kind ofnpain management is he on?
And should he need an amputation after a consult with an Orthopedic Surgeon, you will be amazed at how well he does with that vum leg gone! Sure, recovery is no picnic for a week or two. After recovery though, your sweet puo will e joy living np life to the fullest!!
So let us know what your seco d opinons say, and then let us know what treatment you'll be pursuing. If it's amputation, we can certainly help you through that!
