Hi Sally, and Happy Hannah, hoping your day is finding you wonderfully full filled. I do now have another question, and this will go to anyone in the forums that could possibly answer. Taffy is licking the drain area, I catch him, and make him stop, but...Well short of coning him, which I really don't want to do because of the eye, and now the limb, does anyone have any suggestions? If worse comes to worse, I will cone, but really don't want it to come to that. Thanks all!

Well we decided to clean the area, then we put a prescribed antibiotic ointment, and then we wrapped a piece of cloth around his waist, with a rubber band at the top. the material is thin enough to allow the area to breath, but he can no longer llick at it. winkersuperstarbig-grin

Good for you Kelly! We'd love to see a photo when you get a chance. In the meantime be sure to check out these "cone of shame alternatives."

P.S. What ointment did your vet prescribe? We don't see a lot of that here.

Hi Jerry, we were using Sulfadiazine for the drain area last time he had the tumor removed, and he had a drain, so the vet closed at noon today, and we decided to use this again, it is prescribed, she also told us we could use a triple antibiotic, but we preferred this. She also had given us some blue concentrated soap to wash the area, and then rinse, and dry well. Sorry I don't know the name of this, as she had the techs fill a med bottle for us, and they never put the name on it, but it's what they use to wash infected, non-infected surgical areas. The wrap seems to be working, as he can't lick there, so this is good. I have a few cones, and I have a dingy that goes around the neck, but with him being two weeks with eye removal, and not one week with the leg. I don't want him getting upset. he has anxiety attacks as it is, especially when the rain is coming (tonight) so I just want to minimize as much stress in his life as possible. What we do for our babies, but I would do it all again, as long as he's in no pain, and with me. clapaw-shucks

Sounds like you came up with a great way to keep him from licking the incision. We seem to become great innovators!

Give Taffy a big hug from us.

Wow it sounds like you've got a really great routine for keeping the area clean! glad to hear the vet worked with you on what to use, so you're not just guessing. Nice job!

Hi to all our Tripawd extended family. Just wanted to update on Taffy, he's doing wonderful. Hasn't had any pain meds since last Friday, but he does still take the Novox, and probably will remain on that for his joints, in other areas, but other then that he's eating very good, intake of liquids are good. His stitches could have come out today, but I opted till Monday, the vet said 10-14 days, but I just want to be on the safe side, all though everything looks good. he rests a lot, but as soon as he sees a squirrel, bird, or someone just walking in the neighborhood, he's running, and barking. He's my 15 yr old little puppy again, thank you Jesus! s I have posted before we also have a paralyzed Peke, and my daughter created a diaper for his urinating, well she decided to do the same thing for Taffys stitches, and drain area to stop him licking, and also to keep the area clean. She just takes a piece of material, something soft, and she sews a seam all around so that it can be washed without fraying, she then velcros each end, and then wraps it around his waist, stick it together. I think it's more comfy for people that are reluctant on using the cone. I wasn't worried about Taffy with the cone, because over the past 12 weeks, Taff has had a cone many times, but with the eye taken one week, and the front leg the next, I just didn't want to cause him anymore stress. So I hope this can help. Take care to all, and will keep everyone updated.superstarsmileyclapsuperstar

Im posting this with a heavy heart. Taffy was an amazing little fellow, but on Sunday he started panting very heavy, and was having trouble resting, I increased his lasix, as we thought maybe his lung had filled again, by evening, he relaxed, and slept well through the night. Yesterday went very good, and he slep good last night, but this morning, his breathing became heavy again, and he kept falling down, and shaking. We rushed him to the vet, where they did a chest x-ray, and found 4 golf ball tumors had grown in his lung, all in a matter of no time. The vet said they could put him on a steroid, which would only be a band-aid, but I just couldn't watch him suffer, we decided it was time to let my best friend in the world go, so about an hour ago, Taffy made his way to the rainbow bridge where he can play, and bark, and run, and no more pain. I'm so sorry Taffy, and I will love you always, you will always remain in my heart, until we see each other again, please be there for me waiting, I love you forever, it just won't be the same.kisskisskisssuperstarsuperstarsuperstarsadcryingsad

I am so sorry Taffy's journey came to an end.  What a warrior he was overcoming so much in his life.

No matter how long we have with our special pups letting them go on to the bridge is never easy.  You will see Taffy again, but until that time he will live on in your heart and so will always be by your side.

NO ONE could have done more for Taffy than you and your compassinate daughter. And Taffy new that!

What an INCREDIBLE, FIESTY, BRAVE VIBRANT pup! She wanted a bit longer to be loved ad spoiled ...and give some loving back...and you, your daughter and Tafdy nerself, made sure she got it!!

She conqured so much in ner life! Unbelievable what she has overcome! At some point, it just boils down to "when it's your time, it's your time."

Her life wasn't defined by just these last few weeks, but it is yet another example of how very special Taffy is. You have some wonderful memories during these past fifteen years. Wow! Fifteen years young! That's a ot of loving memories to revisit when you can.

I know right now yor heart is breaking #nd we are so sorry. We are all so very, very sorry.

The picture that is posted today speaks volumes about the one heart you two shared.. Nothing can break that o d. And, while Taffy's body needed to go, that brilliant spirit of hers remains untouched and intact and always present with you. For ow, you will feel her, until you are reunited and actually get to see how happy she is.

The care you gave her is the same care she has for you. She wants you to remember her with a smile on your face and joy in your heart. In fact, if you scroll back and look at all those wo derful pictures you posted, I think it would be hard not to smile! That would make Taffy so happy. I think I see her tail wagging now. Close your eyes.......you'll see it too.

Sending you love. We are all here for you. We understand We care. Stay connected and let us knkw how we can help.
