Today's Tripawd Tuesday rescue story will make you smile and laugh when you meet Buddy. He's a sweet guy from Maryland who was saved by a rescue after getting hit by a logging truck. He's been living the good life ever since he found his perfect people.

Here is Buddy's story as shared by his human, Laura. Follow him on Instagram @buddy_three_legs

Meet Today's Tripawd Tuesday Hero, Buddy!

How old is your Tripawd?

  • 4.5 ish years old

When and Why did your Tripawd lose a leg?

  • He was hit by a logging truck learning to be a bear hunger in West Virginia

How did your Tripawd adapt to life on three?

  • Seamlessly. I was worried when we fostered him, he was only 4 months old or so and had just lost his leg. He was so tiny but after I night carrying up the stairs that was it. He is the most lovable, amazing, crazy boy!

Buddy has a lot to say!

What are your Tripawd's favorite things to do?

  • Sleep, run, bark, eat, play

Is there any special gear that helped or helps your Tripawd?

  • He loves his Ruff Harness we won from your organzation completing a virtual marathon.

If you went through amputation surgery recovery with your animal, what did you think would happen after surgery? Did your worst fears happen? How did you cope?

  • We got Buddy 10 days after amputation, his stitches were still in. He was still on meds but was quickly weaned off them. I was very worried he would not function like his 4 legged sister, I could not have been more wrong.

Tell us your pet's Gotcha Day story.

  • YES!! After Buddy was hit miracle 1 happened and he found his way to a vet. Second miracle was that a vet tech there was involved with a rescue founded by a man we know through hound groups. Third miracle was that this rescue agreed to pull Buddy and pay for his amputation. They asked up to foster because they know we love underdogs. We have nonprofit, HoundPilot, so Buddy got a flight to his temporary home in Md. It took a day to realize he was going to be our furever!

What is the biggest lesson you learned from your Tripawd?

  • Resiliency. No matter what, Buddy lives life the fullest and loves without boundaries. Anything is possible. Different is not scary!

What is your best advice to someone who is about to go through amputation with their pet, or someone who is thinking of adopting a Tripawd?

  • Know that human amputation and pet amputation may seem similar, but are very, very different. Animals live in the now, they don’t think of all the things they could have done had they had 4 legs. They move on and adapt.
