I remember the first time I brought Rocky home, he went all through the house sniffing everything he could. The first time I brought Baxter home, he calmly walked to the love seat in my living room, jumped up on it and went to sleep. It was actually kind of hard to see, because that love seat was one of Rocky's favorite spots too. In fact, you can still see Rocky's imprint on it.
Baxter ended up sleeping either on that love seat or couch in the living room the first few nights. The last few nights, he'll lay on my bed with me but jump down and get into his doggie bed next to my bed when it's time to actually sleep.
Rocky always slept at the foot of my bed (unless it was cold, then he'd come snuggle up next to me). The other day, I fell asleep at the foot of the bed where Rocky would usually sleep and took a nap. I felt somebody come and snuggle up next to me. When I looked up, Baxter was down on the floor in his dog bed sound asleep. I put my head back down and closed my eyes and swear I could feel Rocky again next to me.

Rocky had his right front leg amputated on Valentine's Day 2017 after being diagnosed with osteosarcoma.
He joined the September Saints on September 3, 2017.
He is the toughest, bravest, sweetest and best friend I'll ever know.
I don't see any Beagle in the picture you posted. Maybe Beagle is the 'hot' breed now. The rescue I got Elly from told me she was a Puggle which is a Pug x Beagle. I can see the Pug in her, but not Beagle. Turns out she has no Beagle in her!
On the naming: All my pure bred Pugs were named after Shakespeare characters. Elly is a pug mix (or pug mutt) so I switched to Jane Austen characters- her full name is Miss Elizabeth Bennett.
Maggie was my heart dog for sure- Tani, Mag's little sis came along when Maggie was only two and the pug girls were always together so I feel like I bonded with Tani pretty easily. I adopted Obie just 5 weeks after Mag passed, I was worried about Tani being an only dog. It was hard to bond with Obie- I don't think I really felt like we bonded until we took an obedience class and I stared working with him on his skills- it was several months later.

Okay, I know I'm one of those "sign" people, but how could you not be when seeing what's vroing on with Baxter (he IS a Baxter!) and Rocky foo'
So Baxter goes straight to the spot where Rocky slept on the lpveseat. Just a coincidence? Nope, not in my world 🙂 Baxter clearly had Rocky's blessing.
Baxter is starting ro "sleep" with you on the bed....at least for a while. He probably wants to make sure you won't leave him and you'll be there when he wakes up. And maybe he's also letting you know he'll be there for you when you wake up
And then we have the "mother of all signs"! You CLEARLY felt Rocky's presence!!! Rocky ABSOLUTELY made his presence FELT!! He ABSOLUTELY validated his "paw of approval" on bringing Baxter into your heart and home
Please keep these updates coming. We @ove hearing abput all the nuances Baxter is showing you as you learn more about all his uniqueness!

Oh David,
I am so happy to see this post! and you actually managed to pick one with ears as big as Rocky's only they grow in another direction! 🙂 lol!
Baxter really is extremely cute and I reallyreally hope he will help you heal a little. The one thing I do know is that he is in the best of hands now.

Osteo and amputation in Dec 2015. Second, inoperable, primary osteosarcoma found in June 2017.
The end of our adventures came Dec 10, 2017. 2 years to the day.
His ears remind me of some type of herding dog. Australian cattle dog? I could see the possibilities of beagle but not much. You watch, your gonna find he's a very smart pup. Good job Baxter!!!!

WOO-HOO! New puppy in the house!
The Baxter is a cutie, I hope you're both settling in with each other. I'm with Sally on the possible corgi - it's all in the legs, as well as some herder/cattle type beast. Beagle? doubtful but one never knows. I have little faith in any shelter's assessment of breed. They told me Isa was pure rottie - one look at her and you know that was crazy talk. I think Rocky did good!
I hope your first week together has gone well. I also hope Baxter is not a manifestation of what I have come to think of as the "Wyatt Ray Curse." (Forgive me, Jim and Rene!) Roxy is the poster child for that one.
"Curse" or no, a new furbaby does help. I know I felt a million time lighter within a few days of Roxy coming to live with me. Well, after she stopped growling at me anyway.
I love his ears and can't wait for more pictures and reports!
hugs!

Baxter is just adorable! I am a sucker for great ears! (have you seen Cooper? lol) I don't know that I could ever have an empty house! It's been so many years since it's been empty - we've over-lapped everybody - the more, the merrier! I'm truly happy that you have someone to cuddle with again.

Who, what now?
Wyatt Ray , you know I love you dearly but you have, in the past mind you, been somewhat of a challenge to your pawrents! Roxy is definitely following in your quite large pawprints!

I'm happy to report that Baxter is doing much better now. That nasty cough is all gone.
We're still adapting to each other. One thing I've discovered is he's not real fond of the blinds on my windows. There are claw marks all over them now. I'm having to make sure I raise them before leaving for work. Rocky tore them completely down when I first got him.

So glad to read rhis! And glad his cogh is gone. It's amazing what good care can do for dog 🙂
Had a good chuckle that Baxter and Rocky both do not like your blinds! 🙂 Rocky must have whispered in Baxter's ear before he sent him to you, "GO GET THOSE BLINDS DOWN!"
We NEED more pictures though! HINT!

What Sally said..hint hint.. hinting with a smile on my face 🙂 We also have to raise blinds, cats have similar ideas of them being IN THE WAY! Glad he is feeling better!!

How did I miss this post?! Baxter is pure adorableness! Those ears! Glad to read thru this post and know he's feeling better. I'm so happy for you! Baxter is a lucky boy and Rocky (of the soulful eyes ❤️) knew Baxter needed you and you needed Baxter and dusted off the sparkly heaven dust from his paws and made it happen! Well done Rocky! Our Angels always know what we need and move over a bit in our hearts to make room.....cause they're unselfish like that and just want some joy to come back in our lives. As the others have already pointed out a few more pictures of Baxter would be met with much happiness from us 😉
I've been slacking taking pictures of him. But took one today when I went home at lunch to check on him:
Speaking of going home at lunch. He apparently has either the largest bladder ever or is REALLY adept at controlling himself. He hasn't had any accidents yet, but never seems to really have to go, other than when I walk him.
