Hi all!

Today it has been 3 months since Sadie became a tripawd! The time goes by so fast confused.  She's doing really well and only has one more chemo to go big-grin.  The vet was going to do a chest x-ray at her most recent visit (4th chemo), but we declined because at this point we really don't want to know. Dr Macy completely understood, which made me feel better about the decision.  I'm so grateful for every day I get with my Sadie-bear.  Her sister Athena agrees. Right now Sadie's doing her best to kick her (younger, faster, 4-legged) sister's butt....and holding her own I must say! I worked all day today, and didn't get to properly celebrate the occasion, but I've heard that ice cream is a really awesome ampuversaey treat. I asked Sadie, and she said she would like to try some, as long as it was desert after a steak dinner (she's getting more spoiled by the minute!) Thanks to all of you for your advice and support. It's been said before, and I'll say it again: I don't know what I'd do without you all!

Sadie is my 9yr old Rott/Shepherd mix. Diagnosed with osteosarcoma in her right scapula 1/28/10. Our brave girl had her amputation 2/13/10 and her last chemotherapy on 6/6/10. Unfortunately, a tumor appeared in her back right leg and on 10/7/2010 Sadie's earthly journey came to an end.  On 10/24/2010 we adopted Ranger, a handsome Rott/Lab mix tripawd (got hit by a car) I think Sadie sent him to us.

Happy Ampuversary, Sadie.  Sounds like you are doing very well, and getting mom properly trained and attentive.  They do become extremely spoiled because they have our undivided focus.  If Trouble makes so much as a sound, I know it and respond - even if it is just a glance to make sure everything is ok.  She knows it and takes full advantage!   Sadie is on her way to following in Miss T's pawsteps!

Steak and ice cream sound like a great celebration treat.

With Trouble, our vet did a set of x-rays with her last chemo bloodwork.  All was still clear.  At that point he recommended not doing any more unless we had reason to believe there was a problem. His question was to me was "If you know something is there will you do anything differently?"  Of course we wouldn't so his recommendation was to take her and enjoy her.  If symptoms start, diagnose at that point and decide on a treatment plan. It takes a lot of stress off to do it this way.  I feel very blessed to have his guidance over the last 18 months.

Keep on taking one day at a time, Sadie.  You're doing an awesome job.

Sadie,

All of us are so very glad to hear of your three month ampuversary. We will be celebrating vicariously with you upon reaching this great milestone. It sounds like you PAWRTY is off to a great start and we totally agree with the steak and ICE CREAM theme. Do not forget the extra huggs and the more playtime. However, that too seems to be the theme for the day. Dad will be making a special toast tonight for you and all our TriPawd friends.

I will tell you that the best improvement did not come until the last chemotherapy treatment. The chemical taste was so bad that I did not want to eat anything at all. I did have an x-ray before my last treatment just to make sure that they were holding the cancer off. However, Dad did not want any more chest x-rays because no one could ever tell us what we would do differently. His attitude was that he wanted to make every moment the best no matter if the x-ray was good or not. He did do an x-ray when I bloated but that was just to make sure that there was no torsion or blockage. So I would have to say that Mom and Dad agree that there is no good reason for continued x-rays and it is now time to live in the moment.

Sorry about getting serious because today is all about the ampuversary and an appropriate celebration. I hope that we have started an tradition of adding the ICE CREAM to the ampuversary menu. I got a Baskin & Robbins soft serve cone for my one year ampuversary. Just wanted to give you some incentive to keep on kicking this cancer.

Happy, Hoppy Ampuversary Sadie!  3 months is a great achievement!   YUMMY steak!

Speaking of the good stuff - I think at the Sonic they will give it to you for free if it's for your dog.  It's been a long time ago and our dogs were with us and they gave them a little small dixie cup of ice cream when we got our human ice cream order.

Fun Fact:  Sonic originated in Shawnee, Oklahoma a small town southeast of OKC.  Being that I was raised in Oklahoma - you know these things.  I even knew someone's dad that patented something on the ordering machine and lived off the royalties all his life.

Keep up the good work Sadie Bear!

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Thanks for all the warm wishes! Mommy hasn't had a day off in a while, so she had to postpone the steak. However, I got the next best thing Bologna!!! For a long time, I used to think that bologna WAS steak, then mommy and daddy adopted me and I got to try real steak! But better than that, I got ice cream for desert!!! It was a great pawty (I even shared some ice cream with my sister) I hope you all had a great day too.

Hugs and sloppy Sadie kisses!

Happy 3 Month Ampuversary Sadie-bear! That's just so pawesome and we're so happy that you're doing so well!  Here's to many, many more ampuversaries, steak, ice cream, bologna, treats and everything your heart's desire!

Kami, Mackenzie and Kobe

My sweet golden Mackenzie.  She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2  although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home.  She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009.  She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes.  I love you Mackenzie!
