On May 11th, Queen Nova celebrated her 30-month ampuversary! WHOOOOO HOOOOOO! I am so thrilled. This past month had a couple of bumps, but Nova is still healthy and happy. The bumps came about a week ago when I came upon Nova napping in her "dead dog" pose (on her back with all 3 in the air), and discovered she had red blotches all over her lower abdomen. I immediately jumped to conclusions and thought thrombocytopenia, which is what her sister Emmy had/has. I was Googling up a storm and of course freaking out thinking that something inside her was going wrong, and it was cancer related. I took her straight to the vet. Turns out it's just a skin infection that is under control with antibiotics right now, likely caused by the fertilizer that my husband just put down on our lawn. When the Queen pees, she REALLY squats low, so I guess whatever was on the grass did not agree with her skin.
When I had her there they did her routine bloodwork and said it was pristine as usual. I also threw in a urinalysis just for the heck of it, and it turns out she has a UTI. Didn't really notice it, but we are going to see if the antibiotic treating the skin infection will nip that. Hopefully it does, because the Baytril we have to buy for Emmy's recurrent UTIs costs an arm and a leg! Nova's glaucoma is under control, and we no longer have to give her all the eyedrops.
We have a lot of bike tours these days, running road races, and an Ironman in Lake Placid this summer, so we are travelling a lot, but luckily we have not had to send Nova and Emmy to the kennel. I have been lucky enough to find some very caring neighbors and my son's college-age friend, who have offered to come and cater to the Queen in her palace, so she can stay within her familiar surroundings when we are away. It's really hard to take a blind dog out of her familiar surroundings, so we are thrilled that we have some great people to help us.
We are looking forward to getting together with Michigan/Midwest Tripawds this summer. Anyone want to get together? We would love to see Gerry, Boo, and Rocky again, and we are willing to travel as far as 5-6 hours from southeast Michigan for a pawty. Ohio? Indiana? Illinois? Wisconsin? I never thought in a million years we would make it this far.

Can't take credit for that, it's from the 2010 Tripawds calendar, created by of the mom of Jerry’s girlfriend Lalla. But it's Nova that makes it so beautiful!

I couldn't begin to say how special Sammy is to us. Living and laughing with and loving this wonderful boy is priceless.
Sue, Nova, and Emmy,
Dad will never tire of celebrating such wonderful success stories. You have definitely been a story of perseverance - torsion, osteoscarcoma, and glaucoma – just to highlight a few and now fertilizer rash. Make sure that you celebrate with all the trimmings including the Ice Cream that Dan and Spirit Gus so well pictured. After all, thirty months is like a 2½ years and deserves all the very best. I remember that my soft serve Baskin and Robbins was one of my one year ampuversary celebration highlights.
All hail the Queen as she shows the way with her inspirational journey.
Spirit Cherry

I could go on and on, but there just aren't enough words to describe the incredible success story known as Nova, Queen of The Triapwds!
Congratulations my sweet Queen, we are honored to be your humble servants.
