Well folks, thanks to a very diligent friend, Casper the Conehead and I will be welcoming a new family member come July 3rd as he takes a midnight plane from Georgia....
let's see if I can do this....

sigh....this is an actual cousin to the dog playing with Magic in the wonderful tribute Ge'Lena made....he will be of course about 10 months younger, but my friend knows the breeder and the lines and this will be my first purebred dog ever. He has one undescended testicle, or she would have kept him as she feels he was "pick of the litter" and had said this to someone else prior to me ever talking to her (for three hours on the phone). We have been referring to him as Fluffy (my friend has offered to shoot me if I even think of calling this big dog a "foo foo name"!!) He was born April 23rd and is going to be a BIIIG boy.....Since Magic really liked Belle (the dog he was playing with) we have decided he had a hand in this cuz he knew how much mom would be missing him.
Now, do I need a shrink too? a KITTEN AND A PUPPY????
Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
Diane - that is so pawesome!! What a cutiepie!! I think you'll be so happy with your new family. When my other dog died we got Mackenzie about a month later. I really thought that maybe it was too soon for me - afterall, how could I love anything more than my dog that I lost? Impossible, right? WRONG - Mackenzie hooked, lined and sunk me (I will say it did take some adjusting to at first - afterall, she was a rambunctious puppy). I bet Magic did have a hand in this too...you'll probably see a lot of Magic in your new puppy.
About the shrink? Not to worry - the puppy and kitty will give you enough reason to seek therapy for a lifetime .
So so happy for you!!

My sweet golden Mackenzie. She became my angel on Dec 29, 2010 at the age of 8 1/2 although she was always my angel from the time we brought her home. She was diagnosed with osteosarcoma in Sept 2009 and officially became a tripawd (front leg) on Nov 5, 2009. She will be forever in my heart and now she's running free with all of our other tripawd heroes. I love you Mackenzie!
Oh I just saw the supersized love mug from Comet – OMD!! He is the most adorable fluffy puppy!!! My heart is melting…..

Very cute! The undescended testicle shouldn't be a problem but since he is a big boy I would consider delaying his neuter until he is about 12 or 18 months old. There is some evidence that this can reduce the risk of OSA and will definitely reduce the risk of ACL injury. Of course if there are aggression issues or any chance of a female getting pregnant then he might need to be done sooner! This is newer info and some vets might have a problem with it but I think it is really best for the future of the dog.
We have had our pup (Julian) for 2 weeks now and I always forget how much work they are but they sure do keep you busy and take your mind off things.

Diane, I couldn't be happier for you. It won't be the same, but he will have a new place in your heart you didn't even know existed. As hard as it is to bring a new dog in, I think it makes the healing process a lot faster. I guess now I won't get all those wonderful e-mails - you'll be way too busy!
He is WAY adorable, but 'fluffy' has to go - must be big masculine name...just sayin'
Shanna & Spirit Trouble ~ Trouble gained her wings 3/16/2011, a 27 1/2 month cancer survivor, tail wagging. RIP sweetheart, you are my heart and soul. Run free at Rainbow Bridge.

there is apparently a lot of controversy (that I wasn't aware of being out of the puppy business) about neutering and age....I took my vet some stuff and she said 6-8 mos (I am concerned about the same sex aggression that can occur with mals...but I'm prob. not rushing out and getting another dog) rather than the 12 weeks that I used to do!! But Pam I have actually heard that and there was some info posted about not neutering AT ALL because of osteosarcoma...which isn't happening in this case ... I won't have an unneutered guy. But I will certainly look at waiting longer than the 8 if necessary. My vet actually waited I think til 18 mos for her irish wolfhound and feels that he prob. has cancer in his future so was trying to give best possible outcome. She also mentioned that when you do it very early the long bones tend to take a growth spurt
Echo had an undescended testicle that eventually came down and was no problem so I'm not too concerned. However, interestingly enough, Echo was actually smaller than his sisters and turned out to be the biggest one when they grew up....we had him neutered as soon as the testicle dropped and I probably would do that again with a wd, but I'm open to doing anything to maybe never ever go through this cancer nightmare again....
It really is true...the grief is still there, but having something to look forward to and of course conehead bouncing off the walls does tend to distract one....I vacilate between crying and excitement...sheesh...
OMD he is sooooo cuddly! He looks like a toy! wow! Congrats Diane, I know that he will be great for you and Conehead. Pawesome!
As for waiting to neuter, I totally agree with you Pam. I've also heard about waiting until they're older, and if we had had any say in Wyatt's neutering we would've waited. Jerry was about 5 months when he got neutered and I can't help but think this had something to do with his cancer. There's also a former Tripawd Mom here, Heidi, who waited to get her new pup Ryker, a Mastiff, neutered until he was 18 months. I guess a lot of people were giving her grief for waiting so long. Apparently not too many people are getting the word about waiting.
Yeay for you Diane, he's adorable! So what kind of name are you thinking?
I vote for "Sam" since you're getting him near the 4th. You know, like Uncle Sam? Whadda ya think?

That is one fine looking boy there. Hard to see past all the fluff and puppy cuteness at this point, but you can tell he'll grow up to be a big strong dog.
As for names, might I recommend something off this list: http://www.lowc.....mes.htm. Lots of good candidates there that would fit a dog like that.
diane, congratulations. i recommend a name somewhere in the 'magic' zone... how about mystic? or maybe wizard??
Life is good, so very, very good!!! Gayle enjoyed each and every moment of each and every wonderful day (naps included). She left this world December 12, 2011 – off on a new adventure.
Love Never Ends
Congratulations, Diane! He is so very cute!! I'm sure you'll come up with a fitting name for him - maybe 2 or 3! Puppies have a way of getting into your heart so quickly - even when they're getting into trouble. Zuzu has us laughing all the time with her antics. Between Casper the Conehead Cat and a new puppy you'll have your hands full for sure - and will have plenty of smiles, too. I wonder if there's a word for "sent by magic"?
Hugs,
Holly, Zuzu and Susan
Holly joined the world of tripawds on 12/29/2009. She has a big little sister, Zuzu, who idolizes Holly and tries to make all of her toys into tripawds in Holly's honor. And she's enjoying life one hop at a time!

Is he cute or what? You are going to be one busy mama for sure with a kitty and a puppy. Congratulations on your new puppy, he will bring so much happiness into your life, probably a little frustration to, but so much more love, happiness and smiles and joy to your heart!
