Today is the 26th.  The first 26th without Trouble – a truly difficult one. for me, her first one running free.

Trouble came into our lives as a 12 week old pup.  Full of piss and vinegar.  She had a demanding spirit that would be with her forever. The  young Trouble was different in a lot of ways than the Trouble you guys knew.  Her first 15 months she could not be trusted.  She had constant supervision.  She ate every corner off every blanket and sheet we owned.  She ate every tag out of every t-shirt she found on the floor.  She chewed the wood furniture.  She even ate a pair of steel toed shoes.  If we were gone for even a few minutes, she was confined to the crate.  And then one day, the light bulb came on and she was an acceptable member of the family.  I'll not say she never again got into mischief after that, she did once get diet pills out of a purse and eat them, she did scavenge things off my night stand (never Bob's, always mine). We did all the things a responsible pet owner should do. We sent her to obedience school, and oh did she excel, but in her true spirit, while she knew all her commands, she often chose whether or not she would respond. You could actually see her making the decision.  "Is it worth it to ME, to do what she wants?"

We were diligent about socializing her. She loved people unconditionally. She always loved the vet – which ever one we were using, she was treated by five vets in her lifetime and she loved each one.  She loved the kennel – in her younger days we never had a problem leaving her when we traveled.  She was happy as a clam at the kennel, and would come home just absolutely exhausted from all the excitement. She would sleep for a couple of days. She loved for us to have company – everyone came just to see her, don't ya know!

As she aged, she demanded even more.  She told us when to cook, she told us when to feed her, she told us when to go out. And it wasn't the 'please do what I want' kind of things.  It was more the 'get up off your butt, and do it now' demands. She would NOT rest until you had done what SHE wanted. Ignoring her only made her more demanding.  Did she have us well trained – no doubt.

I'll not dwell on the cancer, treatments, arthritis, or the end.  You all knew that part of her life. I celebrate all the wonderful things in her life today, the cantankerous free spirit.  We were so very blessed to have her with us for such a long time, especially after the cancer diagnosis.  We are blessed to share her life with so many others along the way.

Happy ampuversary, sweetheart.  You are now free.

Happy ampuversary sweet Trouble.

Thanks for sharing more about Trouble, Shanna. Young Trouble sounds a lot like my guys, who I'm currently eyeballing in their crates wondering "Am I awake enough for this yet?."

Big hugs to you today, you're in my thoughts!

Happy Ampuversary, Trouble!  While you're playing with all our other doggie friends, could you please give Jack a kiss for me?  You are still a spunky munchkin 😉

I laughed out loud when I read this, and had to share with Bob.  His comment was that we would gladly take that pain in the ass dog back.

I know today must be so hard. I wish I could say something that would help. Trouble was "one of a kind"! And we sure do miss her.

On the bright side as I've noticed since losing Comet is, I lost weight on "My Dog Died Diet"!big-grin

Her Retired AvatarComet - 1999 to 2011

She departed us unexpectedly  January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.

She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.

Thanks for sharing, Shanna.  Somehow I knew that somewhere along the line, Trouble must have lived up to her name!

Happy Ampuversary, sweet Trouble. We will toast you this evening with a green bean-stuffed beef trachea. Well, NOVA will, I will just stick with the green beans.

Happy Ampuversary to a sweet, sweet angel. We know that Trouble is frolicking and partying with Comet, Fortis, Mackenzie, little James, Max, Cherry, Tika and all the others. Hold your precious memories close and take comfort that you and Trouble inspired many on this website.

Oh Shanna, what a beautiful tribute so full of love. Thank you for sharing it with us.

In times of sadness it seems like remembering the good times will be hard to do, if not impossible. But your post is proof that even when our hearts are hurting so much, we can dig deep within ourselves to celebrate all that was so special and good about our lives together. Trouble has taught you well.

May that cantankerous spirit of hers thrive in all of us to make this world a better place. We love you Trouble!

Shanna, thanks for sharing with us, I thought I knew Trouble pretty well, but found as I read your post that there is so much I dont know about Trouble. We miss her right along with you, and happy ampuversary Trouble! Cooper still feels it such an honor to share this ampuversary day with you. Your mom gave Cooper new duties involving helping her to smile on the 26th, and he is gloing to do his best to do just that! Run free forever dear Trouble!
