Just wanted to give a great big shout out to Spirit Calpurnia's Mom, TC, an up-and-coming dog-centric author who recently got published for the first time ever in The Bark Magazine!

Her article appeared in the January 2012 issue. Check out this PDF for the entire article, titled "Have Dogs Will Run: Dryland Mushing"

"Say 'mushing' and most people envision a team of sturdy, excited dogs pulling sleds hundreds of miles along snowy Alaskan trails. Increasingly, however, urban dog lovers are learning that dog-powered activities are a great way to keep themselves and their pooches in shape while experiencing the joy of human-canine teamwork. Once temperatures turn cool and trail traffic thins out, your favorite non-paved trails are perfect for dryland mushing. You don't need a lot of equipment, a team of Huskies or even snow."

Let's give a big "WOO HOO" to TC for her first ever published article! She and her Odaroloc Sled Dog team are currently in Alaska, getting ready to cheer and support the Ididarod competitors. Read TC's interesting blog, the Adventures of the Odaroloc Sled Dogs to follow her pack's adventures.

As a wanna-be published dog-centric writer, I have to say WOW! And a big congrats!

Super cool!
Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Sorry for the delay - been busy driving from Alaska to Colorado with all the furry kids!

Thanks for the congrats!  Pretty cool experience for me (also a wanna-be dog-centric writer).

And Karen - My aunt has a pug (named "Pug") who likes to pull in harness (short distances).  Pugs are strong little buggers!  🙂

They can pull when properly motivated! We used to call the girls sled dogs when they were younger- but they really would only pull against the leash when there was something they wanted, like grandpa or food.
I guess what I meant was that they would not pull for fun- and since Obie doesn't even like damp ground, snow is pretty much out of the question!

I really enjoyed your article...congratulations! clap

Your talent for writing really shines in your blog. I really enjoyed being included in your Alaska winter adventure. I've been following the blog for a while now and always look forward to new entries. On a more somber note...my condolences to you and Dave on the passing of Sneffles. She sounds like she was a true class act. Thanks for sharing your pack and life with us.
