We got back last night from a long weekend visit to our daughter's house in California. Murphy was thrilled because the pool was now warm enough for some swimming! He got to make his first swims without his lifejacket, although it will still be a requirement for open water and for longer afternoons in the pool. He did extremely well without it, though.

Here are some pictures and videos.

PS Well, I thought so. Guess I need some retraining on posting from Photobucket. I will try the others again later when I have more time to mess with it.

Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!

UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!

Got it! The photos worked, but the video didn't want to play nice. The link does go through, though.

Oh those are GREAT!!!! I loved the video. Did I hear a sheep in the background? Where in Cali were you? I know you weren't anywhere near LA and didn't reach out to me and little Jasper Lily! ;-)

I do love dogs that love to swim... I've never had one but I love seeing them paddle about in the water. Murphy looks great! However, Jasper might be inclined to get into the water if she saw that tennis ball... those are her favs!

Hugs!

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife

We were in Northern California (Auburn). I don't think I could even dream about negotiating those freeways in SoCal any more. Too many years in Idaho to do that!

Yes, they do have sheep and chickens. Fresh eggs every day.

What a happy boy!

Let us know next time you are in CA, we might be able to mount a Nor Cal crew tripawd party!

We will be making a quick trip in early May for a family wedding and another longer one in June for graduation. I will let you know the schedule as it gets closer. It sounds like fun.

Oh what I wouldn't give for it to be warm enough to go swimming right now. All this snow has me in hibernation mode and now I'm dreaming of a warm swimming pool! I love the picture of Murphy with the ball in his mouth. So so cute!

Great to see Murphy having fun in the water! We're also in Northern California, 350 miles NW of Auburn (it's a big state) on the North Coast (Eureka), so if you ever get up this way, there are beaches, rivers & open spaces for your boy to run.

It's a dog!

It's a fish!

It's a FISH DOG! It's Murrrrrrrppphhhyyyyy!

Wow he looks fantastic, such a natural in the water. I love how he holds his head up so high when swimming, that's hard to do without a float coat . Good job with all that PT.

I'll bet he didn't want to go home after that!

He definitely did not want to leave.

That video was of a slow cruise around the pool. When I get onto the laptop where I have the photo program, I'll post one where he was really headed out after a ball.

Kathi and Murphy,

Welcome to California!! Don't you love the weather? Yeah for a Nor Cal tripawd party but like Sophie said we are a big state, you could cover 4 states on the east coast with the length of CA. Murphy looks like he is having a great time, such a handsome boy.

Here he is headed out after the ball. No more leaf blower in the background. Just my creaky camera...and maybe a goose or two.

Look at him go!

Auburn is about 2 hours from my house and about 2 hours from where we usually meet up in Mill Valley, maybe we can find somewhere in-between to meet.  I'll can look for a place when your plans firm up.

June would work better for me, and might be easier on you guys if it is a more leisurely visit.
