Thanks Cody and family and to everybody else who has posted!
Zachy seems to be okay today. Yucky weather here. He did yelp once for a short time today. When I tried to help him up. I'm glad it was really short lived 2-3 seconds and not too loud. He's recasting again now. When we went outside, Zach wanted to walk all over the yard. I wanted him to slow down and tried to get him to come back in but sometimes he's so determined to go out further than he probably should. We just take it easy on the way back in and then he ends up plopping when we get inside.
It is thundering now and rainy here. Zach hates the thunder and he typically pants and shakes when he hears it. So now he's panting. I hope the storm moves quickly so he can rest some more. Tomorrow will be a week since the surgery. So he is doing well. When we were in the yard, I saw a beautiful cardinal. Zach helped me to stop and see the sights today. Love that dog!

That's wonderful that you were able to stop and enjoy the CaCardinal with Zach. Et another exampleofmhim teachingnyou to stay in the present and enjoy beingmore dogz!
Sounds like he's realy doing great for his first week. You still jave someups and downs ahead for just a bit more.
Yeah, we've basically been in a deluge of non-stop rain for three days and nights now in Powhatan...same for Charlottesville?
Does Zach seem to pant more as it gets closer for him to take another dose...or no real correlation? Of course the thuunder isn't really allowingyou to guage his panting and shaking accurately.
You're doing great...hugs tonyou and Zach...and Shannon too!

Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Thanks Sally and Hannah!
I can't tell if it is the rain now or not. Seemed like before it was right after a dose which seems strange. We have given him less and I am hoping that this will help. He hates rain and thunder storms especially- not unlike his dad!
He just ate some! I drenched his kibble in chicken stock and brought it to him. Next I gave him some real chicken. He got up for that! Now he is drinking his water. I am making some rice tonight to make him some lain old chicken and rice to mix with his food. It is good to see him eat and drink with gusto. So spoiled rotten:) that's okay for now. He deserves a little extra. Shanon says he doesn't want him to gain weight but I don't think it is good not to eat much at all. Better to eat some than very little.
Now zach's giving me the stare because I'm eating corn chips and he thinks he should have some... Well, probably not tonight, but as he gets better the begging will return!
That's it for now talk to you all soon!
3-paws up to another good recovery day (well except for those thunderstorms, yuk). Have you ever tried Thundershirts or Bach's Rescue Remedy?
I'm glad to see he's eating and it's good that you're all watching his weight. A tripawd needs to be thinner than most dogs of their size/breed to minimize joint stress, sounds like you've got some good dieticians in the family to help him stay that way!

Great news, sounds like Zach is doing great! I second the thundershirt. We have one for Tanner (though, he could care less about thunderstorms..he has other anxieties) but we love it.
Mom to Tripawd Angels Jake (2001-2014) and Rosco (2012-2015) and Tripawd Tanner. “Whatever happens tomorrow, we had today; and I'll always remember it”
We have a thundershirt, and I tried to put it on him when he first came home and he did not seem to want it on. He does hate the sound of Velcro! Maybe now it will be better. Fortunately, we have had a break int he weather and today was beautiful. He seems good. He was at home with the cone during the day in our living room. He was in the living room upon our return.:)
He took another poop today. A little yucky at the end but okay otherwise.not too unusual. He seemed to have a little bit of happy in his eyes tonight. It was good to see. One more week until stitches come out- I know I can't wait. Fortunately, he hasn't messed with them as yet.
They said it might start to get itchy after about 5 days but he has not seemed to mind just yet. I hope it stays that way. Otherwise it will be the cone 24/7 for the Zman.
He just now laced down again on his amp side. He's all curled up and cute. Once I get some more pictures and get onmy computer I will attach them. Hugs to you all,
Zach wants to give each of you a big wet kiss or at least a lick or two! Gn got now.

Isn't it amazing how better weather can cheer you all up?! I'm glad yesterday was good, how is today going?
About the Thundershirt: I know it works great for so many dogs but our Wyatt Ray is an oddball, he hated the compression feeling that it has and wouldn't wear his. I wonder if Zach feels the same way about it? Hmm.

He sounds so perfect! I want to meet Zach! Finally resting on the stump is a huge relief, isn't it? They're so happy! And of course cute. Best wishes for a speedy recovery. I'm excited for you to get those stitches out. Enjoy!!!!

ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
Thanks all! Today was a good day. Last night he was reverse sneezing or something weird to scare us, but he was fine.
He ate two small meals today which is great. Most of the time he s been having one. Good to see he has some appetite back. He came and visited me in the kitchen today to beg for food.
Zach is looking forward to being off of drugs and getting his stitches out. He will get them out on Friday. We will talk about meds then. He hasn't messed with the stitches yet, thank goodness! More to come later.
Awesome update. Five more days and you can say you're out of the worst part of recovery. YAY! Here's to a great week ahead, keep it up & smooches to Zach.

It is hard to believe but Zach seems to be feeling better and better. He still does not know his limits, but he is resting up really well! I wonder how we could keep him calm wihtout the tramadol! He was hopping around the house tonight after going outside. He has been staying in the living room- no real temptation to jump on anything in there- but tonight when he came in he hopped back to bedroom to see me:) sweet thing. He lay down on his bed, but he had that look of I want to get on the bed, so back to the living room we went. Then a few minutes later his ears perked up when he heard the word treats, as soon as Shannon opened the bag up he went to go get his treat! Good to see him so happy again:)
Time to get some supplies for the house- more rugs, steps or a ramp for the furniture. I think and hope he can and will be trained. Soon the staples come out 4 more days and counting:)
Wow, that's awesome. Believe it; many dogs have the same kind of easygoing recovery. It happens! Zack is a very cool dog, sounds like he totally understands that life will continue to be just as pawsome as ever.
And you're right, most dogs don't know their limits. When it comes to Tripawds, it's SO important that humans regulate their activity to prevent unnecessary joint stress. You are so conscientious and in tune with his behavior, I know you wont' have any problem with being the regulator!
