Hi Pals, omgosh, its been a long time, and since my last visit, I have celebrated by 6 month ampuversaty on 14 November 2008 - WITHOUT CHEMO!!  Yes, I am still very very happy, lively and hopping around like a 5 year old, even though my elderly years are showing... (10 years in Dec).  Mommy, grandma and grandpa is taking real good care of me and we are sticking to my healthy diet.  We had to make a few changes to the diet as I was picking up weight very fast, but I have lost a pound or two which makes me more mobile.  Summer is here and this means more time at the beach - yeah!! We are planning a picnic at the beach next Sunday, 30 November - I will definitely send you pictures!  Mommy finished exams on Saturday so this means that she will have more time to spend with me... How lucky can a dawg get!! 🙂

On a sad note - mommy lost her grandma a month ago.  The entire family is soooo sad and there were lots of tears for days.  Last night mommy was sitting outside crying again and I realised that she needed some comfort - so I hopped over, licked her tears, yelped and pushed my body against hers... that made her feel alot better and we shared a very special moment...  Mommy said that she will never forget last night and that I am her special boy, knowing exactly what to do when she needs me....

I am glad to see that so many of you are doing so well - and I am sad to hear of friends that have left us.  Mommy is praying for all of us and she stays positive - saying that if we think positive thoughts, positive things will happen to us...

Lots of love and lots of licks,

Your Pal, Dee xxx

Aww Dee, you are one special dog to be there for your mommy like that.  Sometimes I think our dogs know us better than we know ourselves.

Great to hear that you are doing so well.  Keep hopping and have fun at the beach.  Looking forward to photos.

Hugs

Dee! It's great to hear from you. Congratulations on the six month ampuversary! Yipee!

Elderly? You? Ha! You're still a spring chicken. What day is your birthday?

We are very sorry about your Grandma, our hearts go out to you. It's a good thing you're around to cheer up your Mum and your other family, they sure need you right now. Keep on spreadin' the love, humans sure need it at times like that.

So funny to hear that it's summer over there. We're freezing our paws off in the states. Send us some pictures, they'll help warm our toes. Enjoy all this extra time with your Mum, and give her a big congratulations lick and wag from us! Keep in touch, we're always glad to hear from you!

Hi Pals, It is sooo hot here in Cape Town, South Africa, that I had to go for a shave.  I look like a young dawg again - the only thing giving me away is my grey beard... hieehiee.  But physically I am all well and still very very happy to be alive, playing, jumping and running around like a CRAZY dawg!  Will send you pics of me with my new short coat!

I dont really know what day my birthday is, because mommy bought me from a petshop when I was six weeks old - it was the beginning of February, so I guess my birthday should be very soon??  I was such a cute and fat puppy - I was the first one to run to mommy when she came closer...  That's why mommy says I picked her and that it was not the other way around.

Lots of love, and lots of licks

Hi ya Dee - it's soooo good to hear from you. Yes...as Jerry said we are freezing our paws off here as Winter is upon us. You sound like you're doing great - I am too. It's coming up on 8 months for me and all is well.

Mom is sorry to hear about your grandma...us dawgs do a pretty darn good job of bringing comfort don't we? Since we can't talk, we always try to show what we're thinking and feeling...your mom is lucky to have you and visa versa. Mom sends your mom hugs through cyberspace...

Enjoy your time at the beach - we're wishing we were there with ya!!!

Much love,

Zeus and Mom

Hi Dee!

We, too, are very sorry to hear about your Mom's Grandma passing away.  It is wonderful to hear that you are always there to give licks and love to your Mom when she is sad.

I'm glad you are a healthy, hopping boy who gets to go to the beach and receive love all of the time.  It truly is really good to hear from you and we hope you will keep us posted with your activities and would love to see the pictures your Mom said she will send.

Congratulations on your six month ampuversary!

Yahhooo Dee, welcome to summer! Lucky dawg. Be sure to put some photos here, we'd love to see your cool new look.

My Mom and Dad never really figured out what day in October was my birthday too, so we just celebrate the entire month. I suggest you and your Mom do too!

Hi Dee so good to hear you are doing so well and happy 6 mos ampuversary.  Sorry to hear your mom grandma passed away and proud of you for making your mommy feel so loved.  Unconditional love, that is what we do best.  Funny how the world is, several of us don't know exactly what day is our b-day.  For me my pawrents figured it was sometime in July as my mommy adopted me in October and I was approx 3 months old and like Jer, we celebrated all month too!  Sometimes I even got lucky enough to get one of those mini cupcakes....those little boogers are yummy, no matter what they tell you.  Definitely am at the beach with you in spirit and send us some photos so that we can check out that new do.  Happy summer!  Lickies from Kellie.

Hi Pals,  Phewww, what a hot and lazy weekend this was...  Mommy kept her promise and on Sunday I was treated to a trip to the beach. With my special Ruffwear Harness getting in and out of the car was eazy peazy and mommy could easily control and assist me on the beach.  I was sooo excited I yelped all the way to the beach and when we got there, that's when the fun started.  I felt everyone's spirit with me, Jerry, Kellie, Winston, Lalla, all my friends that I lost, where with me in spirit and I truly had a wonderful time.  I chased and dragged the kelp and ran around like a young dawg!!  It was so nice to feel the beach sand under my paws, smell the ocean and enjoying the wonderful day with my pawrents.

I hope I will be going to the beach again real soon - its truly my most favourite place in the world!!

Love you lots,

Ansunette & Dee xxx

Three legged south african dog Dee

Yay Dee!!! Thrashing kelp was always my favorite thing to do at the beach too! So glad you had fun and that the harness works well for you.

Thanks for the update and the photo. You are such a cutie …

Hi Pals, Dee celebrated his 7month ampuversary over the weekend.  Although I wasnt with him - went away for the weekend to celebrate my exam results - my mother and father was there to celebrate it with him.

I am a bit unsettled about the fact that Dee seems to be sleeping a lot these days.  I dont know if it is just from the heat or if something is wrong.  My mother informed me on Sunday that Dee didnt get up to eat his food on Saturday evening - he was eating while laying down....  Sunday morning he slept untill 11 o' clock.  Other than that, he is still eating and active and enjoys playing tug of war outside or rolling on the grass.  I dont know if it is just my imagination but he seems to have lost a bit of weight as well...  Do you think I should be worried?  Is this the first signs of Dee's condition deteriorating??  Or am I just over sensitive??

I just dont have the heart to take Dee to the vet and get bad news...  I have had too many upsets this year and any bad news at this stage will surely break me....

Lots of love, Ansunette & Dee xxx

Hi Dee & Ansunette,

Gosh, I'm sorry I can't answer your questions about Dee.  On the one hand, some of his symptoms of not eating, or eating while lying down and the possibility of his losing weight sound suspicious.  I know you are having your summer right now; has the heat ever affected him before?  Then you say that he is still playing tug of war and rolling in the grass.  I hope our veterinarian, Pam (Tazziedog) will answer your questions to give you some ideas.  We will keep our fingers and paws crossed and are sending pawsitive thoughts your way and hope that Dee is just bothered by the heat.

Hi Ansunette & Dee,

Congratulations on reaching another big milestone! And for doing so great on your exams too. What are they for?

We know it's hard not to fret about every tiny change in Dee's habits. If only dogs spoke English! But instead, humans need to learn doglish, and try to think more like dog. So, what could Dee be telling you?

Well, for starters, he's saying "Heck yeah, it's summer, it's hot and we're wearing a coat!" The dog days of summer mean sleeping and taking it easy, right? Heat can affect appetite, and make us sleeeeeepy on some days, especially as we age. We're not vets, but we think that as long as he's relatively the same pup, and he's eating and pooping like always, then not to worry too much.

It's completely understandable that you don't want to take him to the vet, my pawrents didn't want to take me either, for a long time after my amputation. When it's time to take him, you'll find the strength.

Focus on each beautiful moment, and try to put those dreaded "what
ifs" out of your head for now, at least until it's obvious to you that
something may be wrong. Only you know Dee well enough to know when this
is the case.

We send our best across the ocean to you both. Thanks for the update!
