Hi old friends. I'm writing to let you know that Winnie is now officially an angel. I am heartbroken but know that it was her time. She was such a special dog. When I first joined Tripawds, seeing post like this used to frighten me. But Winnie has TWO great years post amputation and had a great quality of life with three legs. Really great. I am so proud of her. And my ability to care for her had everything to do with the support I received here.
Sending love to all.
Alison (and Winnie from above)
From one "alison" to another ... I feel a kindred spirit with you. But your title says it all.... what an amazing way to look at this loss. Winnie did WIN. She was strong and a fighter and she will live on in ALL our hearts forever.
I am truly sorry for your loss and the pain you must feel right now but your attitude "winning" will help you ... she will be so proud of you as she watches over you all the time!
Much love in your time of pain!
XO

Our story: Broke rear leg in June 2013 - non-conclusive results for cancer so leg was plated and pinned. Enlarged spleen in September 2013 and had it removed and was diagnosed with Hemangiosarcoma and started chemotherapy. Became a Tripawd January 8th, 2014 and definitive Hemangiosarcoma diagnosis. Three major surgeries in 7 months and Shelby took them all like a champ only to lose her battle to cancer in her brain. We had 8 amazing extra months together and no regrets. #shelbystrong #loveofmylife
Ohhhh Alison. We've been wondering...and are really, really sad to hear this. But
DARN RIGHT SHE WON!
Dangit, we love love love your outlook. Winnie beat the odds! She challenged forward and never stopped defying all those dumb statistics and predictions.
Winnie gave, and always will GIVE, us HOPE! She is the definition of the word, and will always be here to inspire others who are so new to this journey.
Our hearts to go out to you today, and we also celebrate her amazing life.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all you've done for this community. Winnie, and you, will always be a part of the heart and soul of the Tripawds Nation.

So sorry to hear about Winnie. But, yes, she did beat the odds, and two years is a wonderful landmark. We are walking that same path with Johnnie, 16 months post-op and now officially two years since he started limping and being treated for "arthritis". Thanking every additional day he wakes up and is feeling well, enjoying life and being just a normal dog.
Stories like Winnie's give newcomers hope that it's not an easy battle, but is worth fighting.
Hugs and love from Rio,
Daniela & Johnnie
Our awesome Golden Boy was diagnosed for OSA in April 2014 in the proximal humerus, front-leg amp on 05/20/2014. Finished chemo (Carbo6) on 07/10/2014. Ongoing treatment: acupuncture + K-9 Immunity Plus ( 3chews) and home-cooked no-grain diet. Stopped Apocaps because of liver issues. Liver issues: controlling altered enzymes with SAM-e and Milk Thistle. October 17: started having seizures. Taking fenobarbital for seizures. April 18: started prednisone.
Lovely, lovely Winnie-the-Warrior. 2 Years is amazing, my heart breaks with yours. What a testament to your love and Winnie's resolve to live every day to its fullest.
xoxo
Harmony became a Tripawd on 10/21/14 (MCT). She left us way too soon on 11/1/14.

WINNIE! YOU DARN RIGHT YOU WON!!!! That piece of crap disease tried, especially during recovery, but YOU WON!!! It could not touch your fighting spirit, your gentle heart or your sweet loving Soul! Could not touch it!!
You jumped into my heart and melted it from day one. I have followed your journey, cheered for you and marvelled at your spunk and tenacity!
I saw your post the other day and just couldn't bring myself to respond. I was crying with you and, unfortunately, like so many here, no the devastation, the void...that awful void, and the seemingly unbearable grief. You have cared for Winnie all of her life. But there is nothing like the intensity of caring for our tripawds in this journey. And you cared for her soooo beautifully! She was sooo loved and knew it!!
The grief will be with yiu for a long time. It will hit you hard. It will come in waves just when you think you can't cry anymore.
But then the o e of the happy memories you and Winnje shared will jump in and push the grief away a little bit. And then some more joyful memories will come forth and help push the sadness further into the backgroun. Winnie wants you to remember those happy days.
The "Coping with grief thread"...the one we all wish we never had to go to...does have some really good posts, poems, links, etc. that I think you will find comforting. It's all from people who understand like no thers can. It's all from people who experienced the sadness and found ways to work through it. It may help you get through some of those unbearable moments when you don't think you can take your next breath.
And you know what else will help you get through those moments? Knowing what a stellar life Winnie had with you while on her earth journey....knowing she IS an inspiration here for anyone beginning this journey.....knowing her life mattered....knowing she will never be forgotten.....knowing she's up at the Bridge now bragging to everyone what a great time she had with you....yeah, those moments will help you take your next breath!
And yes, when you can, please share more photos and memories of your time with Winnie. Do you have any baby pictures . I loved the video younposted awhile back of her prancing like a warrior pr i ncess down the sidewalk in the snow right after her amputation. Nothing held that girl back!
Sending you all the love in the world and a knowing that Winnie is ALWAYS with you..
