Tears are flowing over here and I'm not even sure why!!
So proud of her!! She is tryi g sooo hard and this must be beyond confusing and scarey!!
I LOVE her spunk! That "thing" is attacking her and she's gonna "attack" it back!! You get it girl!!
But tell yoj what, to be the first time, she did remarkablell! I cannot imagine how frightening that must feel for ANY dog, much less one with her challenges!
Curious about how she is able to turn. There was o e pont in the last video wnere she looked like she was focusi g o catching a scent on tne breeze, but was uavle to turn her cart towards it.
Also, she seems to be doing so well WITHOUT the cart. Is this more for "future" use or is she having leg weakness issues now?
I am in absolute awe of voth of you! I really am!
And Chris, she s really filling out nicelh and turni g i to such a pretty girl. OMD! When she gave you her sweet "sad face" in o e of the videos......melting hearts over here!! She's such a lovel soul...inside and out!
Look forward to more updates.
Please let us know how Fred ks doing too. AND, are you taki g care of your health issues? You need to take care of yo too!!
Love and hugs!

Hi Sally!
you are so sweet. I think she did great. I was really relieved. I expected more of the fierce cora you saw. she really is amazing. She's going to push, stumble or fight her way through any obstacle.
As for why the cart, she does well for short distances, pavement or a slow pace but when the distance gets longer or the pace faster she starts to fall a lot. Some of it is she can't see the terrain and that one front leg is doing all the work. Not just taking the weight but having to adapt to any unexpected shifts in the ground. And the big motivator is she has been trying to hard to run, but after maybe have a dozen steps she falls. The back left leg is also weaker and will drag after a while and then the one front leg is really having to do too much work. I don't plan to use it all the time. Definitely not in the house or yard here. But when we go out to play or walk, I think the cart would make her much happier.
Floyd is doing ok. He threw up again but then he got hungry and ate some rice. I asked him what he got into and he says it's a secret. I've done another search of the house, because he is sneaky and hides things and I still haven't found any wrappers or anything. I thought I had done a good job of dog proofing so who knows. Thanks for asking.
I came back on tonight because I was looking at the photos from today and saw this one (below) and had to post it. This is cora and I cuddling after the cart session. This one is a keeper for me.
ps- that's peanut butter on her head. I'm not quite sure how it got there but peanut butter was the motivator today.
keeper indeed! That is a beautiful trasure...a forever hapy memory! She loos so cntent, so peaceful!
I tell ya', the care and decotionyou have shared with her is something that will touch my heart forever. You are so tuned to her every little nuance Jusr how you described every little detail about what you've observed with the way her legs work...how she reacts when she tires out...how the uneveness of the ground -that she cannot see- works her front leg harder than dogs with sight. YOU ARE AMAZING CHRIS, JUST AMAZING!
I am so haph Cora has you in ner life. I knowof no other human being who could..or would...do for her what you've done. And the way sheis avle to show her gratitude...the tail wags...playing...enjoying her walks...clinging toyou when she's scared...and this picture you just posted...she has love in those eyes Chris!
I keep saying it because I know no other way...I am in awe!!
Roll on Cora! And Fred, ou quit scarving up something that upsets your tummy, okay?

Awwwww how beautiful. I think in time she's going to be whizzing around and you'll need to keep your running shoes on! I'm so glad it's been a good experience for you. We love watching her progress here so please keep us posted.
Meanwhile, that Floyd sure does like to make sure he gets some attention too! I hope he's feeling much better today. Silly boy.

I've been looking forward to hearing about Cora's new adventure and the videos are just GREAT!! Can almost see her thinking it over and figuring out this new contraption. And that last picture is just beautiful; she does look content. Congratulations to you both; a pawsome start! Hope Floyd's over his little issue.

Thanks everyone. Today we are having a low key day. I *think* floyd is finally feeling better. He's eating and hasn't been needing to go out so that's good. And tonight all of a sudden he got playful. He is one bizarre dog. Last night while I was out with Cora he apparently went into Cora's kennel to throw up. He then buried it in her blankets (yes, he buried it) and was resource guarding it like mad. He knocked poor Cora over twice and went after the cat twice before I finally figured it out. Silly me, I didn't think to dig around in the blankets in Cora's kennel looking for barf. Cora may have brain damage but that boy is a nut!!!
Cora is hanging out in front of the heater after getting into mischief in the bathroom. I will probably give her a break tomorrow too and then try with the cart again on Friday (my day off). I wanted to give her a nice big break plus I was kind of focused on Floyd.
Cora maybe didn't need a rest break. I could hear her wreaking havoc in the bathroom a bit ago but I was feeling pretty tired and didn't race in there. After I heard yet another object fall to the floor I decided I really needed to investigate. This is what I found.
Oh Chris! Never a dull moment in your household! The bathroom needed a little rearranging, huh? very nicely done! I'm surprised she didn't get the toilet paper and go roll your house!
That's so cute that Fred was hiding and guarding his puke! He kows times are tight and he disn't want to waste groceries! Glad he's feeing better!
Hugs to you and your pack!

Oh boy you've got wild animal kingdom going on in there! I'd love to just sit and watch the pack's behavior sometime, they sure keep life interesting.
Guarding puke, Fred? Really? Boy you must be feeling better!

Session 2 on the cart didn't seem to go as well. I'm not quite sure what's up. I may have had my expectations too high after the success with session 1. I think I really need someone to help me out so I may hold off on session 3 until I can enlist the support of a friend. It's hard to watch and see what's going on and help Cora at the same time. I think some setting on the cart isn't quite right. It seemed like the motion was jerky when Cora was walking.
I will try to post some video later. She basically refused to walk on her own. Any walking that happened was assisted by me.
You'll figure it out and so will she. Goodness kows, you have more patience and tenacit than any thousand hmans I kow!
I cannot imagine how scarey this must be to a vli d dog who must "see" everything new in the world to be frightening and trys to attack , her! Poor thing! She may take awhile before she realizes it's a friend!
Wishingyou success!! Roll on Cora!

Hmmm. Well hopefully this was just an off day but I think your plan is a good one. Have you tried calling Eddie's Wheels and asking for some advice?

Well, I wanted to get some video to send to Eddies. Or get a someone who could watch Cora while I was helping Cora so I could better describe what was going on. I sent Eddies of Cora's first outing and they said that looked good.
Then the crazy, insane, and wild rains came. And my back has been messed up, so I hadn't gotten Cora into the cart again. Today I took Cora and Floyd up to my friend's farm. She was feeling quite good
https://www.you.....zyaJaLFMSc
So, I decided to forget about my back and put Cora in her cart. I started her at the top of a *small* hill. I did not expect her to immediately charge down the hill in a full sprint. She crashed going all the way over onto her back. This got the friends dog riled up and then Cora was feeling defensive so it seemed like I'd made a big mistake. I'd hoped that being at the farm would be distracting enough that she'd forget about the cart. And I'd hoped to capture her playful mood.
She fell twice more. By then I figured out what she was doing and how to prevent it. She spent a long time siting in the cart growling at Floyd and his girlfriend. Then a stellar's jay started cawing. I swear she's heard one before but she didn't think she'd heard one. She got all curious at the sound. I got Floyd and Cinnamon playing and then Cora and I really began to work at the cart
Right at the end, Cinnamon came up to bark at the cart. Floyd, for all his issues, is unphased by the cart. So, I settled everyone down and we wandered around a bit, but Cinnamon really was getting agitated again. So I put Cinnamon in the the house, Floyd in the car and something amazing happened.
CORA CRUISED IN THE CART!!!!!!!! She was cheating a bit. She put her front leg up on the bar in front so she was just using her back legs. Now steering was a serious issue and I was having troubles keeping up and controlling things. I finally led her over to something that would stop her from rolling so I could catch my breath. lol. I didn't get any video of that because there was no flipping time.
I gave Cora the chance to put her leg on the front bar again and she did but then it was too fast and out of control for her. So she pulled her leg off the bar, but she seemed to have realized what the cart could do.
The reason I was so excited about when she almost tipped over is because that is how she was tipping over earlier. She really is figuring things out.
Chris,
Cora looks great in these videos. If I didn't know she was blind you would never be able to tell. She is doing an awesome job for the 3rd time in the cart. Keep up the good work
Hugs

This is just so fascinating and TOTALLY INSPAWRATIONAL to see Cora learn how to use the cart. A three-legged, blind and special needs dog, learning how to navigate this great big world. If that doesn't make your heart sing I don't know what will. AMAZING!!!
Thanks for the updates. Kudos to you both, you're getting there!
