If the pictures are any indication of how Jara feels....she is relaxed and happy and looking good!

It is not unusual  at all for a dog to have a low blood count inbetween  chemo treatments.  If my memory serves me correctly, here in the States, the bloodwork is usually done about two weeks after the chemo treatment  and a week before the next.....assuming each treatment  is at three week  intervals.  So two weeks after the first chemo her count was 4370 and then the bigger drop happened  at the end of the third week, right?

Did the Vet  put her on an antibiotic  to help get the levels back up?.

So to have a treatment  delayed does indeed happen.  Sometimes  it may  even happen twice.

AND the fact that Jara is eating fine and clearly  her spunky self....all good.  So her weight loss is not that dramatic, especially  considering  how active she is and how much energy she is using to play as a tripawd.  Did the Vet feel like she needed to put on a bit more weight or was satisfied?

Jara knows how to play hard and how to rest and chillmout at the Vet.  We love this dog!!!

She looks really content and happy!

What did the vet say about the neutrophils? This does happen quite a bit and it's usually just a small delay that doesn't impact how they do treatment, just when they do it. They are being careful that she is strong enough to tolerate the chemo, just a precaution.

As for her appetite and weight loss, did the vet have any ideas about that? She is getting around so well and so active, that I'm wondering if she is burning extra calories now that she is out of pain. Is she below her ideal weight, or what she weighed before?

You are right Benny55 the drop was in the third week, today he prescribed antibiotics. The vet did not give much importance to weight loss, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for your comments they reassure me,

Jerry the vet said that 1340 could not give chemotherapy, we asked him about the cause of the weight loss even though he is eating and he did not give us one answer. She has always weighed 11kg before the amputation, but after the amputation 10.3kg, I guess that will be her ideal weight. We are going to increase her food. THANK YOU JERRY for your advicealready asleep at last

Oh got it. Well it's not a huge weight loss and really, it's not bad thing at all for a 3-legged dog to be a little thinner than usual. That will help her ability to get around easier.

I want to ask if 3-legged dogs can swim without a life jacket

Well, they can but a life jacket helps them swim longer without getting tired. They are especially helpful for front leg amputees. See:

Now THAT looks like a good time! You have two Olympic contenders there, those girls know how to swim really well!

Nice to see Jara wearing the life jacket, it fits her well.

So sweet how Bella was watching over Jars and then Jara watching  over Bella.  Looks like they both were trying to swim towards each other.  So cute! And Bella seemed eager to get on dry land😉  Once you let go of the harness, she was swimming really fast to get to the side of the pool!

These two sure do have a great life! 💖   Nothing  stops them from having fun

GOOD NEWS, today we had an appointment with the oncologist and they gave him the second dose of chemotherapy, the neutrophils were at 4400 and last week he gained 450 grams.

Jara seems to have no side effects from chemotherapy, my wife knows this well, my wife does not need an alarm clock in the morning.

I am glad to see that Jara is doing well and taking the chemo good. She looks very good!

Sadie lost a lot of weight to compared to when she had four legs. At her peak she was about 37kg and now she is 30 kg.

I guess that her front paw and must have weighed around 4kg.

It is better for them to be lighter. Sadie has always been skinny for her breed and self limiting with food.
