Hi, I just wanted to say thank you for this wonderful site. I am not normally one to blog or join in on online forums (I am not too technologically savvy), so this is all new to me. The reason I have joined this site is because of my sweet little girl, Bailey. Bailey is a 10 year old chow chow mix. Up until the holidays she was doing great. Then her appetite decreased and so did her weight, but otherwise she seemed to be healthy and content. We took her to the vet and on radiographs they found a large mass in her abdomen. We then scheduled an ultrasound. The ultrasound revealed a large tumor on her spleen. During the ultrasound, things took a turn for the worse. Bailey's leg actually broke. Radiographs revealed disease in the femur bone, she must have just put pressure on it in such a way that the bone broke during the ultrasound. Because of the disease, the bone could not be repaired. We could not believe it, she was walking just fine on that leg that very day. So, a week ago, my dog Bailey had to have a splenectomy and her right rear leg amputated. It was a decision that we had to make quickly and it was a real shock for my husband and I. We never imagined that we would have to face a decision like this, but who does. We were so worried about whether we were making the right decision for our little pup and then I started researching online for information about dogs recovering from leg amputations and I found Tripawds. I browsed this site as a guest and found so much helpful information. I think it so amazing that you all have come together to share your stories about your beloved pups and support one another. This site truely helps people and for me, it gave me piece of mind and comfort in knowing that others know what I was and am going through. Thank you all for sharing your stories. So, far Bailey is doing well as she recovers. As I said, it has only been a week, but she is amazing us every day. Each day she is doing better and better. We are so happy she is back home with us, and each day that we have with her is a blessing. We should hear back about all of the biopsy results in another week or so. For now, we are just focused on helping Bailey recover from the surgeries and we will take things step by step.

So glad to hear that Baily is doing so well! This was a great forum to start! I'd like to say thank you too! I've never joined anything like this online either. When our "furbabies" have something happen to them it's easy to go crazy with worry! I have been on here ranting and worrying and questioning every little thing Shine (my babe) did after his accident. Everyone here is VERY helpful and understands what we're feeling. It is easy to join into the community and I love that there are vets that can chime in also!
Thank you TRIPAWDS!

I'm trying to get around to blogging too, we'll see how that goes!
Echoing that, too! Tripawds has been a foundation for us during this awful diagnosis and recovery. I frankly don't know where we'd be without it. Thank you Jim and Rene, but also thank you Jerry and Wyatt Ray !
As for Bailey, keep us all informed as to how she's doing. She's been through a lot, but is no doubt surrounded by love!
ACL tear in right hind leg 12/5/12 and scheduled ACL repair surgery 12/21/12. Pre-op xrays revealed osteosarcoma. Amputation 12/28/12. Chemo (carboplatin) started Jan 10, 2013 and ended on April 5, for a total of 5 doses. He handled carbo like a champ! No side effects. We started metronomic therapy at his third chemo and have been also doing some holistic treatments. He's a lively, playful 10 year old huskie-boarder collie and a very proud member of the Winter Warriors! Our love. Our funny little guy!
So sorry you find yourself in this situation with Bailey but yes, this is a wonderful site with lots of info and emotional support. I am also not tech savvy. Posting on forums and starting a blog were all new to me when Magnum got her diagnosis.
No matter what happens next you have this extra time together so enjoy every precious day. We are here to help you as much as we can along the way.

Magnum: 30th May 2002 to 5th May 2012. Lost her back left leg to osteosarcoma on 5th Sep 2011. Lung mets found on 20th Mar 2012 but it was bone mets in the hip that ended her brave battle. Magnum's motto - "Dream as if you'll live for ever, live as if you'll die today" (James Dean). Loyal, loving, courageous and spirited to the end. Oh Bailey, you have the sweetest face ever. I'm sorry you have gone through so much in the last few days but what a relief you made it through those scary surgeries. Wow. How are you doing? And did the docs say what kind of cancer you're dealing with?
Thank you for the kind words about the Tripawds community, you made my day. Yes, the people here are just incredible. We never ceased to be amazed by the way people are here for one another during this journey and beyond.
Whatever we can do to make your recovery easier, please let us know OK? Get well soon!

Thank you all for your support and kind messages. Bailey is doing better and better each day, which is helping me and my husband be able to relax a little bit more and more each day. The first two days that we had her back home, I was seriously just watching her constantly and worrying, even while she slept. But, watching her adjust so well to these changes has just amazed me, especially since she really has been through so much in just a week's time. It helps me know we are really doing what is best for her. Yesterday she started waggling her little tail again, which made both my husband and my eyes well up with tears of joy. But, we know we still have challenges to face. We do not yet know exactly what kind of cancer we are facing with her. They took biopsies of the spleen and leg bone during the surgery and we are still waiting to hear back from the vets on the results. They told us it would be about a week to hear back on the spleen biopsy (so we should be hearing about that soon) and they said it would take longer (about 2 weeks) to hear about the bone biopsy. So for now, we are trying not to worry to much about the results and are just focusing on caring for her and helping her recover.
Well, you have a great attitude. I know that waiting for news like that can be so tough, but Bailey will keep your mind occupied as she shows you how to have a good life despite adversity. Soon enough you'll wonder why you were ever so worried.
