You are so perceptive.  Rooster is so gentle and sweet.  We got him in 2006 when my son was five.  He was a year to a year and a half years old and was found wandering around in trenton New Jersey dirty, hungry and scared with a collar but no tag.  I was in Petsmart looking for hermit crab treats (my hermit crabs lived for three years and I finally gave them to a little girl I skated with) on pet adoption day and I saw him sitting behind the adoption table head down eyes down totally quiet and bewildered.  All the other dogs were barking and active.  I walked over to see what the big orange ball of fur was and he looked at me with his big brown eyes.  I MELTED.  His ears went up, his tail wagged and I thought "Oh my God I'm taking this dog home".  I had never had a dog, had NO intention of getting a dog but I could not leave this dog.  I had him a week later.  When i went back for him....he REMEMBERED me.  He saw me again, wagged his tail, smiled, walked over to me and hasn't left my side since.  He never looked back as we left and hopped right up in the passenger seat and has been my sidekick ever since.  He plays with puppies, senior dogs, his three legged sister.  He's never growled or bared his teeth.  Someone trained him incredibly well.  He will not approach his food bowl until you step away. He won't go in a door ahead of you, he won't go down the stairs before you and he listens to all his commands. er.....he USED to listen to all his commands.  He promptly trained me and I am now his loyal servant.  He is a one person dog and I'm his person.  Patches is an equal opportunity lover.  Rooster loves everyone but there is no doubt who his one and only is.  I am so in love with my two dogs and live my life to spoil them beyond their wildest doggy dreams 🙂  Thank you for all of your kind words.  Since I found this site and this community I have once again found hope.  I've found the grit that has gotten me to where I am now.  And for my dogs I will fight ferociously.

I hope you have a great weekend.  Because of you and the tripawd community I know I will to.

xoxo

Thank you both so much.  I really do feel like a weight was lifted off my heart.  It's nice to know that there are other people out there like me in my situation and that we can share and lift each other up.

Yes.........THREE years.  They were little Ecuadorian hermit crabs and they had their own giant aquarium with an "ocean" at one end, soft sand on the other, heater, mangoes, treats, lots of shells to try on.  They were so cute and made little clicking noises.  And those little things love to eat!  They got used to me and would hear me coming.  They shed their shells quite a bit too and I'm sad to say I lost one because I didn't realize that when they shed if they burrowed too deep the wet sand became too heavy and they couldn't get out (RIP little Hercules) but once I understood they thrived.  And we have a fish that my son won at a carnival.......9 years ago.  Seems that once they get to our house they don't want to leave.  I'll take it as a compliment.

Thanks to tripawds and my new friends I think I'll actually sleep and relax this weekend.  I have a plan in place, lots of information and questions and I'm ready to go into battle with my winning armor on 🙂

Have a WONDERFUL weekend.  I'm feeling blessed.  Thank you. XOXOXO

Debbie

You are so welcome for the support.  I thank YOU for your support of us too.  By the way, I told Rooster and Patches you called me their pack leader.  They're STILL laughing.  Me and Rooster know who the leader is.  Our little tricycle of course.  But it's fun to fantasize about them listening to me once in a while.

I hope you and your team have a wonderful weekend.

xoxo
