That first bath is so great! And I think they like getting vet hospital stink off too. And so glad Rocky is reunited with his ball!
Otis - 106 pound lab/Dane mix, lost his right front leg to osteosarcoma on Febuary 9, 2016. Four rounds of carboplatin completed in April, 2016. Lung mets August 25, 2016. Said goodbye too soon on September 4, 2016. Lost his adopted sister, Tess, suddenly on October 9, 2016. likely due to hemangiosarcoma.
Wherever they are, they are together.
I think he loves that ball more than he loves me. I exaggerate, but not by much. He LOVES his tennis ball.
He had his second round of chemo today. He didn't have any issues with the first round, so I'm hoping that holds true again. So far, so good.
As well as he's done, this week is really the first week where I've felt like things are back to "normal". In fact, as crazy as it sounds, there's been a couple of times where I've almost forgotten he's a Tripawd. I'll watch him get up and think "uh-oh, he's limping ag ... oh wait, there's no leg there."
I still hate that we had to do it, but he's adjusted amazingly well. I really shouldn't be surprised though, because he's one tough cookie (uh-oh, his ears just perked up at that last word).

Kind of hard to believe, but today is Rocky's 2-month ampiversary. Happy to report he's still doing great. He had his third round of chemo yesterday, and so far no side effects.

Rocky's fourth round of chemo was due yesterday. We made the two-hour drive (through a driving rainstorm) only for his WBC and neutrophils to be a bit too low to administer chemo. His oncologist said it was borderline but she felt better playing it safe and waiting a week. I can't say I disagree. I guess the good news is that means the chemo is doing its thing.
I'll get his blood work done at his local vet before taking him up next week. If he's good to go for his treatment, he'll also get chest X-rays done. Fingers crossed that comes back clean.
It was a busy week for him. He went for his second round of PT on Monday and then got groomed Wednesday. I still need to upload some new pics.

My goodness! A busy day indeed!! And that looong dirve...inn0 the rain....ugh!!
Getting things done at your regular Vet is a great idea! And yeah, some theories say low WBC means the chemonis doint its job.

After a week delay, Rocky's blood count was back up enough for round 4 of his chemo today. Since it's the halfway point, they also did chest x-rays. I'm happy to report there were no signs of those nasty mets in his lungs. We're going to just keep chugging along.
Kind of hard to believe, but Sunday will be three months since his surgery.
Oh. And pictures.

He's got two more to go for a total of six. Outside of the low blood count two weeks ago, he hasn't had any issues with it.
We've been pretty fortunate, relatively speaking. His recovery and treatment have gone about as well as could be expected.

We're coming up on his four-month ampiversary, and Rocky is still doing great. His blood count was a bit low again prior to his fifth round of chemo, so we've (at my request) pushed it to this week. But he's still handling it like a champ. I haven't noticed any side effects.
There's a park in my neighborhood and we used to walk past it almost every day. I wasn't sure if we'd ever walk past it again. It's not really that far from the house, but a little too far for him post-amp ... until this past weekend. I gave in and let him lead me there. He got a little tired on the way back home, but some neighbors were outside on their porch and came out to see him. He got a bit of a rest while we talked and they brought him some water, too. Probably the best walk we've had since the surgery.
A few days earlier I was walking him and another neighbor was out with his dog. As they got close the neighbor said "I don't know if you noticed, but something's wrong with your dog's foot." I told him about the cancer and the amputation and the neighbor gave me a funny look before bending down to get a closer look. "Oh my! I didn't realize it was completely gone!"
