Hi everyone,
I really appreciate this forum for all the great information and inspiration I have found here so far!
Our beautiful dog Rocco was hit by a car a few days ago and had to have his left front leg removed. This has hit us pretty hard and my only comfort is the fact that Rocco is coping very well (better than me) with the situation! Today is his first day back and all things considered he is doing well. He seems happy to be home and is loving all the extra attention. I look forward to his rapid recovery and I will be searching and reading all of these fantastic forums for as much information as I can to help in his healing process.
Rocco is a 2 1/2 year old black lab with a great personality and friendly spirit. He loves to go camping, and swimming and he goes crazy when the dirtbikes leave camp as he loves to run with the bikes. He weighs 75lbs but still thinks he is a lapdog! And he is great with our two boys 8 and 5.
Thanks for reading our introduction and we look forward getting to know everyone!

Welcome to the forums Rocco, and thanks for registering! You should find great support from all our readers during this difficult time.
You sound like my kinda dog. I used to go on long backcountry hikes. I still love camping, and I still swim, but life on three legs just requires a little adjustment since we get tired much more easily.
What you need now is rest. Take time to heal, then take it easy for a while. We look forward to hearing about your speedy recovery.
Once you regain your strength, you'll be back to your old tricks again. Just be careful around those bikes!

Hi Rocco,
Glad your surgery went well. I am 2 1/2 weeks post op and doing great. I too was happy to be home the first couple of days, but then went into a bit of a funk for a couple of weeks until I got my staples out. Now I am doing much better and finally starting to eat normally. Here's to a speedy recovery and happy hopping!

Hi Rocco - welcome to the tripawd family. We hope this finds you getting better and better each day. Looking back, the most important thing is rest for the first few weeks...I'm now almost 3 months post amputation - i had my right front leg removed and life is pretty darn good...the only thing that I can't do now that I did before is take really long walks - but I'm also 10 - you're just a baby compared to me (but I still think I'm a pup).
Take is easy, tell Dad not to worry too much - we pick up on all that - and ask as many questions as you need to. There is a wealth of information here on Jerry's site and lots of support too.
Keep us posted pal -
Look forward to hearing from you - woof woof

Hi Rocco (and Dad)
Sorry to hear about your accident and subsequent surgery but I'm absolutely sure that in a couple of weeks from now, you'll be running around as well as you were before and your Dad will feel a lot better!
