I'm speechless and just shaking my head.  Poe's experience makes me sick to my stomach.  I am happy to know he's doing well.  I'm glad you found this site.  I look forward to your updates.

Liberty (Libby) was diagnosed with OSA on 1-22-13.  Right front amputation on 1-31-13. No IV Chemo. Metronomic Therapy started 2-19-13 along with supplements and some home cooking. Lungs clear until 1-06-14.  She's still her happy, hoppy, bossy self.  Living the dog life to the fullest and a proud Winter Warrior. :) RIP my Libby 4-21-03 to 3-19-14

Poe is gorgeous and despite what he has been through it sounds like the internal scars will heal as well.  He had better get used to some loving cause it looks like he has got lots of it coming his way!

Lots of hugs to all of you

Poe is home now <3 I was so happy to see him walking out of the vets, i had to go to the car really fast to change Jeremy and i was fully expecting Alex to be carrying him. But nope, little fella just went strait to me <3 Getting him in the house was  a little more then traumatizing however :( we have 2  cats and they never paid any attention to the puppies before, or any dog. But we didn't stop to realize that Socks hasn't seen Poe sense she had kittens. which resulted in her attacking Poe :'( she didnt get poe, just scared him to the death  and scratched me to high hell  pulling her away and throwing her in a bedroom.

Once i got him in the kitchen he was alot better, however poor thing was so scared he climbed onto his food container in the corner first thing. He absolutely hatessss it in the kitchen, but after he got his favorite treat he really calmed down ;) lol

They told us his back leg fracture is nearly completely healed and causing no problems anymore, all his stitches will come out in one week and his ear will be completely healed in 30-40 days, they also confirmed he has no hearing loss at all in his ear :D

Heres poe in the kitchen and with his favorite treat <3

Poe is absolutely adorable.  Give him a great big hug for us.

Adelaide is a young tripawd Husky, from an injury.  Her amp was on 10/1/12.  She has 4 sisters, Aissa (a senior border collie/chow), Maggie May (a puppy Great Pyrenees), Mathilde and Morrigan and 1 baby brother, Bagheera.  We are all watched over by our angel Brendol, who was dx with OSA 1/30/13, amp on 2/6/13, and left us on 8/20/13.

Poe looks like he is settling in nicely.  He is a gorgeous boy, and so lucky to have you to help him adjust to his new normal.

Sending good thoughts for a speedy and non-eventful recovery.

so far his home coming was pretty good, last night was HORRIBLE. he laid there whimpering for hours until i could give him his next does of pain medicine :( they said at the hospital he was doing the minimum doses, but i don't see how, here he'd in pain again way before the min time frame to give him another dose :/ he was even yelping if i sat there in the kitchen with him.

He's doing better today though,  He LOVES outside. we took him out to use the bathroom and he just refused to come back in, once we finally got him in he just laid at the door haha

However i think the cone around his neck is really hurting him as he seems most frustrated with it, the edges of it keeps scraping his ear which kept causing it to start bleeding, its practically tugging out his stitches. I called his vet and they said his cone has to stay on until the stitches are removed next week, and that i couldn't cover it with gauze to protect it, so i don't know what to do other then just sit here and watch him hurt him self every time he walks and the cone scrapes it :/

Oh poor pup! Have you seen these foam cones? Call around and see if you can find one. I know that Petco wont' have them but some vet offices will. They are lifesavers. Our Wyatt had to wear a clear one too 'cause he was super bad at bugging his stitches but the big floppy one might work just fine on Poe. Also, Petco has these inflatable "Kong Cones" that can work.

What kind of pain meds is he on? If it's tramadol be aware that it makes a lot of dogs crazy. Work with your vet to find a good dose that wont' do that to him. Unfortunately whining and crying could indicate too much pain medication or two little. It'll take you a day or two to find the right balance.

Hang in there!

he's on tramadol but it doesnt seem to affect him other then making him sleeping about an hour in. His recovery seems to be really slowing down :( he was fine yesterday morning then by the afternoon he was stooped so low to the ground i couldn't take him outside to use the bathroom. my husband can pick him up down the stairs but when he's at work i have to take him down our porch ramp but i feel like its too harsh on him going down it, by the time he gets to bottom he has to lay down, and coming up it is just as bad :/ My house is so not recovery friendly, especially sense he loves outside. I can't use the towel sling thing either. I'm suppppose to be on full bed rest because of my high risk pregnancy, but ovbioulsy that's nearly impossible with a baby and a puppy recovery from surgery. I just feel like there's nothing i can do to help him.

Is it normal for their recovery to slow down when they come home? i mean it makes sense, since he's adjusting to being back home, but he was just doing SOOO well at the vet's. :(

Try not to panic, it is entirely normal for a Tripawd to "crash" after the first few days. We're not vets but we think it has something to do with the surgery meds working their way out of the body. Once they're gone, the body needs time to acclimate and that's when it seems like a lot of dogs crash. If you are at all concerned or your instinct is causing you worry, call your vet OK? Describe the symptoms and hopefully they can put your mind at ease without a visit.

You ARE doing things to help him, by keeping calm and just allowing him to sleep this off. Many dogs will spend the next week or so just laying around. It's a big surgery and it just takes time, but he'll get there. Be good to yourself, you've sure got a lot going on!

Update on poe!

He's alot more energetic now and is getting around the yard and up the ramp just fine, he even chased down a chicken yesterday morning haha. He's now on the minimum dosage for pain and handling it really well, although he has had alot more nightmares which just sounds horrible. :'(

He had his 2 week checkup today to get stitches removed and good news is his ear is healing PERFECTLY. they said maybe 2 more weeks and it will be completely healed over. :) However he popped half his stitches and started draining "serum" so he's now having to stay over night at the vets :( he's getting half his stitches removed and half need to be redone, which unfortunately for Poe means he gets the dreaded cone for another week or two.

Poe's also gotten in the habit of sitting on Jeremy, he literally just walks over to him and plops down  on him, which luckily hasn't hurt Jeremy, and Jeremys been getting revenge by crawling over Poe, which also luckily hasn't hurt Poe haha I think they'll continue like this for the rest of their lives lol
