I adopted Gidget, a 18 month old tripawd Schnauzer mix from the Idaho Humane Society on Aug. 31st, 2012. She lost her front left leg in an incident with a car and it doesn't hold her back at all. She's healed so well you can't even tell that there was even a leg there to begin with! I've never owned a tripawd before. I am amazed at what this dog can do. She was trained by a prison inmate for 2 months so she knows all sorts of commands. The Idaho Humane Society has a program called IDAPI where some dogs are chosen to participate in. In the program, they live with an inmate for 2 months while receiving extensive obedience and agility training.

So far, Gidget has been a very good addition to our family. She is patient with our 3 year old soon and gets along great with our cats and senior dog. This first month though has been hard at times because she got kennel cough a few days after leaving the pound and then developed what we thought was an abscess on her throat. She's gotten over the kennel cough but the swollen area on her throat is still healing. A vet at the humane society thinks it is a bug bite because there isn't any pus in the wound and because her whole face had swollen up pretty badly. She's happily running around in our backyard, eating well, and loves to go on walks and to play tug of war with her squeaky toys.

I'm so happy that I found this community! So nice to meet others with a tripawd!

Welcome to Tripawds.
Where in Idaho are you? I know we have at least one other member here who was trying to set up an Idaho tripawd pawty in Bosie, and is doing the See Spot Benefit Walk. Here is a link to that post: http://tripawds.....er-6-2012/

You did a great thing adopting a tripawd!

Hi and welcome to you and Gidget. It's great that you are not dealing with cancer, like many of the tripawds here.

We look forward to hearing more about Gidget and her adventures. It's a pawesome thing to be a tripawd pawrent!

Jackie, Angel Abby's mom

Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!

Welcome! She is a doll. Does she really hula hoop? Let's see some pics!

Thanks for giving this sweetie a chance at a great life. She sounds like a very special pup.

I'm so glad you posted in the Tripawd Parties discussion forum, Barb has been wanting to meet another Tripawd in Idaho for soooo long! You'd think with it being such a small state it would be easier. But now I'm hoppy to hear we have two there anyhow!
