Dang I'm sorry the cancer is not being nice. Poor Max.

It is a VERY good sign that the rabbit dinner got him perked up enough to eat. That tells me that Max's body is putting all its energy toward healing, and only eating when the meal is too tempting to resist. Once his pain is under control that appetite of his should pick back up.

You are doing everything possible to help him beat that nasty tumor into submission. The vets at UW are fantastic. We love veterinary teaching hospitals because they have the brightest and most enthusiastic vets in one place. Treatments are always cutting edge and so innovative! Max is going to get the most amazing team working on his case to help him feel good again. He's a very lucky dawg to have parents willing to make the drive.

I hope with all my heart that you get the birthday present you want, the one that we all want. Please keep us posted OK? We are keeping all of you in our hearts.

Sadly, we didn’t get the result we were looking for. They decided to do an X-ray of his chest before doing anything else, and found that the nodules in his lungs had spread considerably, so much they worried sedating him would kill him.

they also found a lot of fluid in his chest (outside the lungs) and putting a lot of pressure on his lungs and making him work hard to get a full breath of air.

There just really wasn’t anything we could do. They removed 1/2 L of fluid from his chest, and gave us an appetite enhancer. They said it should make him more comfortable and possibly get him eating again.

unfortunately, it didn’t. We had to basically shove his pain meds down his throat, and while he’s drink water, that’s about all he could do. He isn’t walking anymore, he would stand long enough to pee and his poo was a bloody diarrhea...

regardless, we put his dog bed up on our bed last night and he slept with us all night.

today we took him to the dog park for the last time, picture links will follow, and we will be going to BARC this afternoon to say goodbye.

the secretary on the phone had spread the word to the rest of the staff and sounded so choked up when she said, “you may not know just how special Max is to us here. We are so grateful to have the chance to say goodbye to that sweet boy.”

I keep bursting into tears at the memory of her saying that, just like I did over the phone.

he’s such a good boy. I’ll have more to post soon, just going to spend my time with our boy today as much as possible.

you can find the pictures I am going to  share on Instagram @sara_m_hart

Shaking my head in disbelief with tears flowing.   I am so very, very sorry.  As usual, there are no words that can help ease your broken heart....and I know it feels like it's shattered into a thousand pieces.

I'm coming  back, but for right now just know this to be true for us also...

you may not know just how special Max is to us here.......

We are all so grateful  for the privilege of getting to know Max and his hoomans.  It's a love story that is eternal💖

With love

Thank you both for the kind words. It has been such a lifesaver to have you both here cheering us on while we go through this whole journey.

We had such a good final day with our boy. The link to the pictures can be found here:

https://drive.g.....qcUb8s8ujK

When we got to the vet, we found that some of the staff had even come in on their day off to say goodbye to our sweet boy. We had a quiet room, and a comfy place for him to rest.

In the end, the vet that first started his cancer treatment was the one to end it, with tears running down her cheeks.

Max took his final breaths with my hand close to his nose, so he knew that he wasn’t alone. Hopefully he will find his best friend Joey up there waiting for him, and together they will chase bunnies, birds, and cats all day, and snuggle at night (pictures also in the folder above) until they can one day snuggle with the both of us once more.

I miss him so. icon_cry

Thank you again for making this journey seem possible. One thing we know for sure now, is that we will never be afraid to adopt a tripawd, they are far more capable than I had ever imagined. ❤️

It's good to hear from you, thanks for sharing and posting the sweet photos. Max and Joey sure had a bond, brothers from another mother! You can see it in the way they are so relaxed and natural around each other. How sweet! And yeah, they're definitely at the Bridge, running around and never getting tired, chasing critters to their heart's content. You will see them again some day.

Of course you miss Max, he had such a big presence and it leaves a big empty spade in life without him. Letting go of all the loving activities you did together, that's a lot of time to get through without crying. Broken hearts need time to heal so be kind to yourself OK?

In the pictures, oh my gosh, the way the sunshine lights up his pretty fur. Unforgettable! He has a look in his eyes says "I'm ready, and I might be moving on mom, but I will always be in your heart. Look for me when you see something really awesome in nature, because that's ME too! And when you feel sad, think of me snuggling with you, and know that I'm always with you in spirit. Thank you for all you did for me"

It says so much that Max's favorite people at the clinic showed up to give him their love. He had such a fan club there, and here too. It was our honor to be part of the journey you guys took together. And who knows maybe some day a Tripawd will come into your life. There are no better parents than you to give a 3-legger the best home ever.

I admit, I may have bought one of the pillows that I’ve been seeing ads for on social media that take your dog’s picture and put it on a pillow sewn in an outline of it! I’m not ashamed!icon_lol

thanks again, I am subscribed to this post and may end up coming back from time to time and lurk around. ❤️
