Well we thought we were going to have to say good bye to Sasha today but the Vet wasn't willing to give up on her just yet. She said that she had one more idea and if it didn't work then we had nothing to loose. She said the symptoms seem to be nerve damage so she thought as one last shot we should try steroids. She got her first shot today and she has to go back to the vet tomorrow. I am not sure how long they are going to try them for but I know this will be the last resort. I still have that little glimmer of hope. What a trooper. She is still eating and still tries to run to the car and back into the house. You can see the will in her eyes when she wants her paws to move but they just won't. Has anyone had any success with steroids and nerve damage?
Any Hope would help.

Hi sherry and sasha
we are rooting for you and hope those steroids kick in and do what they should. I think my only other thought is a second opinion? Sometimes just picking a second brain helps. The only other thing I have heard of with legs is tick paralysis... But you are taking good care of her and stay strong.

Hi everyone,
I am very happy to say that I am home and doing very well. The vet has said that she thinks it was a herniated disk. I have got complete feeling back in both of my front paws. Mom thinks it the steroids have worked wonders. I am walking on my own (with a little support) and my paws aren't curling under now. The vets have sent my x-rays to the local vet college to see if they can tell if I have "wobblers" or not. My appetite is great and I still have my spirit. For the last week I have been going to the vet office and spending time with the girls there. They feed me all kinds of good stuff.
Mom is so happy. She hasn't been crying lately so I know things are going well. I still haven't started my chemo yet but the vet is going to do some bloodwork today to check my CBC (blood count). She thinks that with the steroids I am taking I may be able to do chemo soon.
Thanks everyone for your support and again I will keep everybody updated.

I truly think this was a miracle. I can't explain it. I actually think she is doing better now than what she was from the time that she had the amputation to just before she got sick. I can't believe I was almost going to make "the decision". If I can give one piece of advice to anyone it's "when the time is right you will know". I wasn't quite ready to give up the fight yet and I am so thankful that I didn't. Just trying one more thing made it all worth while. Honestly you will know then the time is "right".

Hi Everyone,
Unfortunately, I am not doing so well again. Mom noticed my front right leg starting to turn in again. They have kept me on steroids but they don't seem to be doing the trick. The vet says to up my dosage of my dextab and my pain meds and call her back at the end of the week. Mom is still crying a lot and I know this is very hard on her. The hard part is that I am very much hungry and alert my limbs just don't want to work. The vet still thinks it is a herniated disk. Hopefully I will spring back like I did last week!
Mom is asking everyone to pray for me and my fellow tripawds that are having a "ruff" time.
Sasha buddy don't you give up on us. You need to keep on trying. My mom was reading about Dr. Gloria Dodd she is a holistic vet. Check out her website and see if there is anything there that can help you heal better. I think you can also email her and maybe she can be of help. Her website is http://www.holi...../index.htm Hope you can find some type of information there that will help you.
Do you think that it may be an allergic reaction to the medicines? I know that on my first chemo the vet kept me at the office all day just to make sure I did not have any allergic reaction and if I did to be able to flush it out of my system quickly. Also you may want to check for a doggie chiropractor. They may be able to help with the pain and getting your back in place. My mom has a herniated disk herself and when she makes the wrong movement PAIN is the name but once she goes to the chiropractor and gets herself adjusted she is like new.
If your mom has a chance to go to the bookstore and look for the The Healing Art of Pet Parenthood
and check around pages 191 -191 and talks about the pet chiropractor. Hang in there my friend and know that you and your pawrents are all in our prayers. Keep us posted......Kellie
