Now is when the dreaded Cancer journey began.
I had come back from a trip for my sister and my birthdays. (Hers is February 21 and mine is February 23. I am 2 years older than her.)
Well, it was Feb 25th, I believe. Brandy and I were laying in bed when I was petting down her side. Well, I noticed there was a bump on her back left hip/leg. It was about dime sized and a round, like a little ball under her skin. It was the first time I felt it. (I swear it grew over night. Or it at least appeared in the few days I was gone on vacation.) I called the vet the next day. I got an appt pretty quick. The doctor took a biopsy of the lump. Well, the cells looked abnormal. He was almost 100% sure it was cancer. So, the vet scheduled her to have surgery on March 3, 2016. She had surgery and the surgery went good. She healed up like a champ from the surgery.
Brandy's incision.

This picture shows the size of her incision.

My little cone head! 🙂

......
Brandy got her stitches removed on her birthday, March 15, 2016.
I also got some news then about her cancer.
The margin of error was high. They couldn't remove all of the cancer. It was all in her muscles and everywhere in that little area.
Her vet informed me that her cancer was caused by the feline leukemia vaccine. And he also told me that her tumor was in a higher spot than what's usual for cats. They usually try to do it lower on a cat's leg for this reason. Well, we think she must have been laying on the table when they injected the shot, so it got injected into her upper leg/hip.
Purrfect photos of an unforgettable kitty! I love these. Would it be OK if I added one to our Tripawds Gallery?

This pic is of Brandy at her heaviest weight. She had gained a pound since her last visit, which was in June and she was 14.7 lbs then. (The June visit was for annual shots. And Brandy did Not receive the feline leukemia shot during that visit.)
At this visit, we discussed with her new vet (the one who diagnosed her with cancer had moved) about her tumor coming back.
At the time, I had decided to let her live her life out. No more surgeries.
Well, one day (some time shortly before October 19th) Brandy's vet called me. She told me Brandy had really been on her mind lately. She was wondering what we decided to do with Brandy (if we were gonna let her live out the rest of her life without surgery or move forward with the amputation.)
I told her that we decided to let Brandy just live the rest of her life out without surgery.
But on October 18th, the vet called me and we talked some more. She really thought I should go through and do the amputation surgery on Brandy.
I leaned more towards it during our conversation.
Well, then she told me the cost of her having an ultrasound (to check if the lungs are clear), the blood work, the anesthesia, and the surgery would cost $800. That was too much for us. But then the vet told me that she would contact the company who created the vaccine to see if they would cover some of the cost of her amputation surgery.
Well, I get a call on October 19th and the vet told me that the company would pay for Brandy's entire amputation surgery and reimburse us from her previous surgery (the one back in March.)
Well, how could you pass up an offer like that?!
We couldn't!
I took Brandy to the vet on the 19th to get her ultrasound done. Her lungs were clear! 🙂 So, we scheduled her amputation surgery for the following Tuesday, which was October 25, 2016. Little did we know what was in store for the next 3 weeks. (Which is all documented through this forum.)
This pic is from August 26, 2016.
