Hello all, my cat Sampson was diagnosed with an osteosarcoma in his hind leg just about 3 weeks ago. Last week I made the decision to have his hind limbs amputated. He came home after two days and I felt so guilty at first he wouldn't eat or drink for the first two days then he got up, he slowly started getting his bearings and wanted to eat, started drinking and using his litter box. He is now 7days postop. He's going up and down the stairs, using the ramp to get into bed I thought it would be hard for him but he appears to be adjusting well to being on three legs I'm so glad that I gave him the chance to live as full and happy of a life as possible

Sorry you are having to go through this, but really, really glad Samson is doing so well...so early in recovery too! That painful leg is gone and Samson is ready to get on with living life to the fullest!
Fellow members owned by their kitties will be chiming in so you can compare notes. Our long time kitty hero JILL just celebrated her TWO YEAR AMPUVERSARY and is blowing statistics out of the water!!
Stay in the moment, kick all worries out of the way, and get on with enjoying being with Samson! He's loving the spoiling!

Sharry and Sampson, welcome! Wow, you are indeed a rarity in the animal kingdom but you have good company here; we have a member named Jill who like Sally says, has rocked the Tripawd lifestyle ever since she lost her leg to osteo. Have you seen Jill's blog yet? Be sure to check out our other TriKitty bloggers too. I also know one more kitty who lost a limb to osteo, they are on Twitter and I can look up their URl if you're active there.
I'm guessing that you only amputated one limb right? You said "limbs" but I think that's a typo? Just wonderin.
We are glad you're here and looking forward to following along and seeing some photos.

Hi Sharry and Sampson! I'm sorry Sampson had to go through this, but you've found the right place. Everyone here was so nice to us.
My Sebastian lost his front leg to osteochondrosarcoma. He's doing great 10 months later. Cats bounce right back, really. Sebastian had some ups and downs with not wanting to eat and a day or so where he was in pain, but after 2 weeks he was ready to resume normal activity. Mom & dr didn't let him but trust me, he was back to his usual self. Then after a couple more weeks he was given full freedom and is doing better than ever. He built up muscle in his other leg, figured out how to move around to his usual spots, and he got a TON more socialable/loving. I think since he can't play as much as he used to he wants his humans to play with him more.
Also I think the ramp is great since that's what hind leg amputees have trouble with - getting up places. After he is fully recovered you might consider putting some "steps" up to any other high places he liked to go before.
I'm sure Sampson will be back to his usual self in no time...keep us posted!!

Sweet Sampson, I sure hope the amputation got rid of that cancer. Sure sounds like the recovery is going well.
My cat Mona had her front leg amputated in June and she is doing great. I noticed huge improvements monthly. Perhaps she's getting stronger, perhaps she's more confident. I found the most difficult time was up until her sutures/stitches were removed.
Since your kitty's amputation is recent, would you mind adding the costs of amputation on this forum: http://tripawds.....d-you-pay/ It helps when people need to consider costs in their decision to amputate.
This is a great forum if you have any questions and we'd love to hear more about your kitty and to see photos.
