So glad I tripped across this site!  I want to introduce you to our boy, Merlin (see pic).  We adopted Merlin last summer from a rescue group in MN.  He came from Georgia, where his owners surrendered him to the humane society to be euthanized because his rear left leg was broken and they couldn't afford surgery.  Sadly, he was put in a back room and forgotten about by the vet.  Three weeks later, they realized they would have to amputate the leg because of infection.  At the time he was just 10 months old.  Thank heavens they decided to save his life!

He is as sweet and cheerful as they come and we have truly been blessed by this courageous, loving and energetic boy!  His capacity to love everyone, despite the hardships he has been through, continually amaze me.

Welcome to the group Merlin.   You are a very handsome fella.  I am so glad your mommy & Daddy decided to adopt you.  Thank heavens that the animal shelter decided to save your life by amputating.  You will do great as a Tripawd and there is awesome information here :)

I am so glad to see that Merlin has found a happy home where he will be loved and taken care of.  How could the vet just forget about him?

I am sure that Merlin will thrive now that he is in a safe and loving home.  Merlin will amaze you with how he gets along just like any other dog.  Thank you for looking beyond the missing leg and welcoming him into your home.  He will bring you much happiness and unconditional love.

Welcome Merlin! You are are lucky dog to have such great pawrents to find you. They must know that tripawds are pretty darn special and you sure look like a very special dog to me!

Spirit Shooter was a Miniature Australian Shepherd who was diagnosed with a MCT and had a LF amp 1/28/13 at 13-1/2 years old.

Shooter crossed the Bridge on 8/28/13, his 7 month ampuversary and two weeks from his 14th birthday.

Hi Merlin! (And merlin's mom :-) )

Merlin is super cute...is he sheltie mix? GSD mix? (Hard to tell his size in the picture!)

Which group did you adopt from? We also have a rescue from down south...our younger dog is from Homeward Bound. She was an abuse case (and a teenage mom...she had puppies before she was even a year old) out of KY. Actually, she looks a bit like a short-coated version of merlin! (Well, a cross between a shorter-coated merlin and Yoda, I guess. :D )

Thanks mmrocker.  And, good eye!  We adopted from MARS and they said Merlin is a gsd/sheltie mix.  He's about 45 pounds so that would make sense.  Merlin thinks your pooch is pretty cute too!

I love MARS <3

Sadie (our younger dog) is a GSD/Sheltie mix as well :-) They DO look a lot alike!

Here is a (not very good) photo of her waiting (not very patiently) for her birthday cake this year (she turned 7 this fall)...
