Uneventful is a blessing! YAY!
Let us know how the visit goes. We are always curious about what oncologists are doing with metronomics these days (there's a slight variation in the treatment drug combinations). Paws crossed for a good checkup!

First off, a couple goofy pictures to get your day going right. (Gravity does amusing things to dogs...) Maddie is beauty, Maddie is grace, Maddie has derpy looks on her face.
Maddie's oncology appointment Friday went without incident. It was just a blood work and kidney/liver function check before starting metronomic therapy. Thankfully no sedation or chemo drips, so a relatively easy visit for us all and a quick bounce back for Maddie.
The current metronomic therapy plan is: Cytoxan (19mg every other day) with Deracoxib (75 mg once per day). The oncologist tells me Cytoxan is generally well tolerated, so really hoping Maddie falls into the "general" category here. We haven't received the meds yet. They were supposed to shipped out Monday and to us Tuesday, but they are in NYC so things got delayed by the snow storm. Maddie will go in for a blood count check in a couple weeks and then for chest scans in about a month.
Has anyone else used this combination? Would love to hear people's experiences with this, or just metronomic in general.
We decided to stop briefly at a dog park on our way home from the vet so that not every car is just about the vet. There was NO ONE else at the park, so Maddie lost interest quickly. We stopped for coffee on the way home, and they gave us a pup treat, which she did NOT lose interest in.
The stuff she can do still amazes us. There is this makeshift climbing structure at one of our local dog parks. Maddie decided against using the little ramps there and instead jumped straight up!
Check out how great her amputation spot is looking! Fur growing in nicely and everything.
And as a final chuckle, a short clip of Maddie grinning and sneezing: https://i.imgur.....FjCmcu.mp4. She probably licked my face right after this...

Perfect!!!😁 And yes, her pictures definitely gave us all a huge smile and welcomed chuckle!!😁🤣 Love that she bypassed the ramp and did it her way! Such a great fun dog!!!😎
Others will have to chime in on the metronomic mix. Familiar with the Cytoxnn, but not the Deracoxib, but that doesn mean a anything.
The best measurement of how Maddie is doing is to just watch her! She is clearly having a blast as a tripawd and isnt missing a beat! Love this dog!

Maddie is so full of expressions that make me giggle! She is such a comic! I had almost as much fun seeing her on the go as she did chowing down on that pupcake. What a blast to see her having a great day and enjoying the world. And the video OMD!
Yes, lots of people have used that combo of metronomics . Here's an entire Forum thread dedicated to metronomics. Our Jerry was on it and he tolerated it very well. Girl dogs have a higher chance of cystitis (blood in the urine) but your vet can instruct you on how to decrease the risk.
Oh and smart move to make sure that she gets out to other places besides the vet. This one adventure set the bar for her future excursions!

Two doses in and so far no obvious side-effects. Given Maddie's general appetite-related sensitivity, I wasn't going to be surprised if she would be in the small percentage of dogs who get nauseous. Maybe a bit more drooling when she is exerting herself, but the sample size is too small to be significant yet. I would say so far so good.
The main side effect the vet talked about was cystitis. For now we are making sure she has lots of water and opportunities to pee to hopefully limit the chances.
Ih Maddie, you are a sunbathing. Goddess!! Such a pretty girl!
Knocmi g on wood Maddie continue6 tolerating her treatment well......and ot looks like she is doing just fine😎

I almost didn’t post, as I really don’t want Stacy’s deep loss to be about anyone other than her. But man oh man is grief a funny thing. It can come from no where and you can feel for someone’s current loss, while simultaneously grieving a past loss and fear of a future loss. I was heartbroken to hear about Griffin tonight and find myself in tears over his loss and all the things it brings up. Not just the reality of cancer or the uncertainty of Maddie’s future, but mostly the loss of our other dog Barley in April. He had some kind of spinal degradation or injury, and Stacy’s description of Griffin’s decline and last few days sounded so much like Barley’s that it took me right back. While I still think about him, I haven’t had a good cry over it in a bit and definitely the biggest cry since we first got Maddie’s cancer diagnosis. From other posts tonight, I don’t think I’m alone in feeling big feels tonight. That her loss has touched so many of us who have never even met says a whole heck of a lot about Stacy, Griffin, and this community as a whole.
Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com
We (finally) got some snow! Maddie, who can be really lazy, has had such a pep in her step. What is it about snow that’s just lights a fire for some dogs?!? ❤️❤️

Adorable! I love how she's surrounded by so many happy hoppy oaw prints in the snow. And yes, dogs have the excitement and wonderment of a kid when it comes to snow😎
PS. Barley was a lucky pupper to be loved by you and Maddie♥️

Maddie looks quite content in the snow and she really is booking it in that video! I'm not a huge snow fan myself, but Griffin's joy at the sight of snow was unmistakable and so I guess I've come around a bit. He would lay in the snow just like Maddie is doing - I'm not quite sure how that is comfortable but I guess they must like it!
Jessica - your post yesterday really touched my heart. I am humbled by the impact that Griffin has had on this community and I'm ever so grateful to have the Tripawds family in my life. I'm so very sorry about the loss of Barley and that Maddie's cancer diagnosis hasn't given you the space to fully grieve. I know it is important for caregivers to make sure they are taking care of themselves, something I struggled with at times. A few weeks ago I decided to research therapists who specialize in pet loss and I came across The Association for Pet Loss and Bereavement (https://www.aplb.org/). I have an appointment early next week with one of the therapists listed there that I made when Griffin started to show some decline. They also have resources listed for support groups. I'm sending you, Jeremy, and Maddie lots of love from NYC!

Seattle got hit with actual real snow this weekend. We had a small dusting Thursday overnight that left a very thin layer on grass but the roads clear. (That's the picture of Maddie laying on our deck from a last week). But then starting Friday evening until mid-day Sunday we got about 11 inches of snow. This is pretty unheard of for us. Of course it turned to rain so most of it is gone already.
Maddie seems to really enjoy the snow. We took her on one of our longest walks with her post-amputation and were prepared to cut it short. But she just kept going and seemed really into it. She also seems to enjoy eating it. Dogs are weird and wonderful.
I thought I'd share a photo and video of her and Jeremy playing in our yard. Three legs didn't stop her from romping around the yard. (In fact, maybe she is even better suited to it now because she is already used to hopping around...)
Here is a video of her trying to chase a snowball and then trying to find it when it disappeared in the snow: https://i.imgur.....LPDHAw.mp4
There is certainly a life lesson there for us humans in the way these creatures enjoy their adventures -- even when inside the confines of your own backyard.
Love that video! Maddie is such a joy to watch....I think I can actually see her smiling!😊 She seems to almost floats over the snow as though it's a soft cloud.
Her "action photo" on three is a brilliant example of how natural it looks to have on three.
