Today is exactly 6 weeks and 5 days (47 days) since Jake's amputation surgery. He is still not feeling better. He is really having alot of difficulty in standing on his back legs. They seem really weak, especially his left one. When I came home from work today, he had only moved a couple of feet away from where I left him... I know that the Adequan injections won't show any signs of working for another week or so... but I just want him to hang on a while longer... He is such a sweetheart... He peed and pooped outside when I took him... but had to support him 100% with the harness... Now hubby came home, and we brought him into the TV room where we all hang out till we go to bed... I just made his chicken/turkey stew... and he'll be eating dinner with Wolfie in less than an hour... I am emotionally exhausted... I hate all of this!!!

Jake lost his battle on 11/9/2009, almost 8 weeks after his surgery. We will never forget our sweet golden angel… http://jakesjou.....ipawds.com ….. CANCER SUCKS!
Tasha and I are so sorry to hear that Jake is still having problems. We were hoping that the next time you posted it would have been with good news. Hope things start turning around , we will keep all of you in our prayers and a special prayer for Jake.

Tasha lost her battle and became my Angel on May 4 2011. Forever in my heart….
You and me both!! At least he's not worse than he was this morning...
I just have such a bad feeling about all this... because he was doing so well post op up until about Thurs or Fri... I don't think he overdid it, cause he only goes swimming on Sat and Sun when we're home all day... I don't know... I'm just waiting for the Adequan to kick in... if it's going to... Otherwise, I'm not sure what else to do. It's only Tuesday... so we still have the rest of the week to start hopefully seeing a tiny bit of improvement... or not.
Maybe I just won't post here for a couple of days... so when I get back, either things have started to get a bit better, or worse... I'd hate that though, cause I've been on here practically day and nite since Jake's whole bone cancer ordeal started...
I see some new members on here, and I don't want to discourage them... After all, there is always hope... and that's why we did Jake's amputation... because we saw that some dogs did so well, and that's what gave us hope... Maybe Jake would be one of the lucky ones...
So, I'll probably post some advice and say hello to all of you in the next few days... I just won't post any updates on Jake... unless things get better, or worse...
Thank you everyone... for everything!!! I love you all, even though we've never met!!

Oh Marguerite,
I am so sorry Jake is having these problems but really did not expect to see a difference until after at least four injections. I don't know why four but I guess I figured half way through.
I don't know why Jake and Emily are experiencing the same problem. Their amputation times are different as is the leg that was amputated. Emily is a rear leg amputee.
Is Jake still interested in what is going on around him? I know (from experience) that it is exhausting physically and mentally to have your dog have no mobility. Jake is such special dog and I am so praying for him (and Em) and so many of us.

Hi Debra (and Emily),
Yes Jake is still very intersted in his surroundings and everything that me, my hubby and Wolfie do... everything else is the same (except that he really gets alot more tired than usual) and of course, those back legs... He pants so much when we take him outside... but maybe that's because it's a whole ordeal lately, or maybe his lungs are starting to get filled with met... aaarrrhhh!!!
Is Emily feeling any better yet?? What have the vets said? You've had 2 Adequan shots already, in one week? Do you notice any improvement yet? What does of glucosamine is Emily on? I kept saying that Jake is on 1500mg... but then I read his bottle, and it's actually 3000mg. Not that it's making much of a difference...

Hi Jake's Mom,
Emily hasn't actually started her adequan shots yet. Her first one is scheduled for Thursday. Our vet works two days a week (officially, but she calls and checks on Em between Emilys' appts.) and Emily doesn't like the other vets in the practice so we waited for her. I am very anxious to get them going though.
I'm glad to hear Jake is still interested in his surroundings. I can't tell you how much I hope the shots work for both of us.
Emily is on glucosamine chondroitin 1500 mg. and Omega 3 also 1599 mg.
Good luck with Jake and don't give up yet. He just started the adequan. Still praying.

Em & Jake -
Our prayers go out to both of you. I wish I had some kind of wisdom to give - you have both been so supportive when I was scared with Shilo. I just want to send out love -
Hugs -
Shilo & Mom
Shilo diagnosed with osteosarcoma 9/4/2009, amputation 9/9/2009. ShiloAnne lost her battle 11/23/2009 where she regained her fourth leg and is patiently waiting for her parents to join her. We will always love you baby girl.
This morning, things are worse... We had to lift Jake up... he couldn't get up on his own. He walks a few steps then just stops, trying to catch his breath, as if he's been running... lung mets? His left back leg is just dragging now... while the right one is shaking... I upped his tramadol this morning... I feel new lumps all over his back legs and abdomen... I have a feeling that the mets have finally caught up with him...
I don't know if he's in any pain... he's not vocalizing... so it's so hard to tell with him. He only cried once when he broke his leg... and while he was waiting for biopsy results and then his amputation surgery (for over a week) all the while with a floppy broken leg, he never cried or acted like it bothered him, until he'd have to walk.
Hubby is staying home from work today... to be with Jake. I have to go in to work but will try to come home early. We've been talking about what we're going to do... We're thinking that if Jake isn't better, or is even worse by Friday... then maybe it will be time to put him out of his suffering... He has gone from such a happy 3-legged dog... to this... in just less than a week.
I have to leave for work now... I'll post more when I come home...
