It is hard not to freak out (i am a little freaked out about Abby this morning...) but I believe others have had some signs of swelling in the remaining leg post-op too. We did not have that, so can't offer any real advice, except to say that I don't think this is unheard of.
Hopefully someone who knows more will chime in, or your vet will call back soon! Good luck,
Jackie, Abby's mom
Abby: Aug 1, 2009 – Jan 10, 2012. Our beautiful rescue pup lived LARGE with osteosarcoma for 15 months – half her way-too-short life. I think our "halflistic" approach (mixing traditional meds + supplements) helped her thrive. (PM me for details. I'm happy to help.) She had lung mets for over a year. They took her from us in the end, but they cannot take her spirit! She will live forever in our hearts. She loved the beach and giving kisses and going to In-N-Out for a Flying Dutchman. Tripawds blog, and a more detailed blog here. Please also check out my novel, What the Dog Ate. Now also in paperback! Purchase it at Amazon via Tripawds and help support Tripawds!
Laurie, did she have a pressure wrap on? Last week somebody here had a similar problem and it was from a pressure wrap. It restricted the blood flow and caused swelling. If she has one, you might want to cut it off because that would be highly suspicious.
There are a lot of reasons the other leg can swell. We'll think good thoughts until you hear from your vet.

From abandoned puppy to Tripawd Warrior Dude, Dakota became one of the 2011 February Furballs due to STS. Our incredibly sweet friend lived with grace and dignity till he impulsively raced over the Bridge on 12-15-12.
Dakota's thoughtful and erudite blog is at http://shari.tr.....pawds.com/
Hopefully the vet will call you back soon. We'll be sending good thoughts your way!

I was actually expecting swelling in my dog's remaining front leg after the amputation because I had read that it could and probably would happen. I also had read that any of the remaining legs can swell along with the abdomen and chest . Well My dog Valentina definitely did have swelling in her leg opposite the amputation as well as her chest, abdomen, and her other legs. The swelling in her back legs and abdomen went away in about 5 days but her front leg opposite the amp stayed swollen for quite a while. There is alot of extra fluid in the body after the surgery and it all moves downward. Especially since the leg that used to be there is now gone the fluid has to find somewhere to go. Swelling in the remaining leg usually resolves on it's own after a while but it's good that you called your vet about it to make sure. Also if the swelling is very extreme you definitely would want to check on that. Good luck. Hoping it's just normal post op swelling and that it will resolve soon.
Thank you guys, you are soooo helpful!!! I hope i can be as helpful someday to someone here!
I thought she twisted or pulled it so i had been keeping her off it. The vet called later in the afternoon and said to get her up every two hours because it is probably edema. She didn't like the sound of it and suggested i come in in the morning if it doesn't get better.
Maggie is doing great!! Today is her 12 bday!!! she is gettig up and down by herself, and eating like a pig. I changed my avatar so you guys can see for yourself!!
love you guys.
Happy hoppy 12th birthday! Eating like a pig is a good sign! She must feel good.
Hope the swelling is better in the a.m.
All the best,

Hoppy birthday Maggie! You don't look 12, you look like a kid!
I hope your swelling goes down. Sounds like your vet is sharp though, you'll be OK if you do need to go in. Hang in there and feel better OK?
