Hi All - just an update to let you know how I'm doing.  For those who don't know me - I am Dee from South Africa, a 9 year old German Shepard/Border Collie cross diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on 9 May 2008 and lost my right front leg on 13 May 2008.

Jerry, you wont believe me - mommy found a supplier of the Ruffwear Harness in South Africa!  She got it for me yesterday and it fits perfectly...  I am a bit scared of it - never wore anything like it in my life, but mommy says that it will assist with helping me in and out of the car, and helping me get up after I had a nice nap. So, I am sure that I will get used to it in no time.  (Like I got used to my three legs in no time!!)

I want to tell you a funny story:  Grandpa takes me for short walks every morning before he goes fishing - 4 o' clock in the morning!!  The other morning a Policeman who regularly patrols our neighbourhood stopped next to grandpa and asked him why I have three legs?  So grandpa looked at him, and said:  I don't know, why don't you ask the dawg? hiehiehie.  Then they both laughed and Grandpa told him my story.  My family is so used to me being a tripawd that the sadness and the tears they cried when I lost my leg, is forgotten and they have never looked back.  Can you believe it - next week is 4 months post amputation (without chemo) - time flies when you're having fun!!

I have (sadly) lost lots of my beloved canine friends along the way, but also made new ones from all over the world - what a lucky dawg I am!!

Lotsa licks and lotsa love, your pal from Africa, Dee xxx

Hi Dee!  You sound like you are doing great.  That is wonderful.  I'm glad to hear you found a harness.  My mom was giong to offer to get it here in the US and send it to you but then we couldn't remember who it was that was looking!

I love my harness but I, too, was a little afraid at first.  You'll be fine.  It just takes a little time and then you'll forget you even have it on!

Slurps,

Pogi!

Hi Dee,

Your lucky, I can't wait to get my harness. My mom is ordering mine today. Don't worry I bet you'll get used to it in no time...hold out for kisses and treats everytime Mommy puts it on and pretty soon you'll be begging to put your harness on and it will be no big deal. I'm so glad to hear your doing well!! That's a funny story about the policeman...I'll have to tell my Mom that one.

Waaaaaahoooo! Great to hear that you are hopping right along Dee! I love that story about your Grandpa and the policeman.

It's funny how people will ask what happened to us, and then go "awwwwww..." I tell 'em "Hey, I've still got one more leg than YOU!"

I'm really glad to hear you found a harness all the way over there, thanks for the update. Yah, you get used to it. I wear mine from the minute I get up until the second I fall asleep at night. I always wear it. We learned the hard way, that whenever my Mom and Dad forgot to put it on me, there would always be some incident that would happen where I needed it most. So now they never let me out of the RV until I have it on.

Boy, South Africa sounds just beautiful. Lucky you living so close to the beach. Keep up the walking, and keep up your beautiful spirit!

Your friend,

Jerry

Hi Everyone, Thanks for the cheers and the good wishes.  You are all such great pals!!

Yes, mommy is going to send you a pic of me in my Ruffwear harness . Thanks for tip about the treat and kissess - sounds WONDERFUL!!  I'll do ANYTHING for a treat and a kiss! 😛  You are right about the accidents, Jerry - they happen so fast and our pawrents feel so terrible afterwards! But we know they love us and will do anything to protect and care for us - so I will have to get used to wearing the harness on a regular basis.

I cant wait for summer to be here so that we can spend some time on the beach...  The beach is the only place where I am not camera-shy!

Wow Zeus - has it been 5 months already! I cant believe it - time flies when you're having fun, hey! Keep up the good work!

Love you all and wish you all the best!

Lotsa love and lotsa licks,

Your pal, Dee xxx

Howdy Pals! Phew, have i been begging mom to update my page and check on all of my buddies here on tripawds.com.  Anyhows, she was very upset to hear that Jerry is ill, but we are both glad that he is feeling better.  We are sending all our love and all our blessings, positive energy and lots of licks to him... Oh yes, and happy birthday buddy!  I will also be celebrating my 10th birthday at the end of the year in December...  I am still doing very well.  Enjoying life and just having fun.

Has anyone heard anything from Winston??  I havent seen him around in a while, maybe his mommy is also very busy....

Jerr, you hang in there, you've got it in you - you are our hero and a legend!!

Lotsa love and lotsa licks, Dee xxx

Hiya, Dee!  We're glad you checked in to let us know how you are doing.  We're ALWAYS glad to hear when one of our 3-legged friends is doing so well.  I have not heard anything on Winston.  I hope his Mom has just been too busy to post.  Now that we have your attention, however, we are sincerely hoping to hear from you and you Mom more often (with, or without the pictures).  Love, Blazer, Kitty Kimber & Mom

We haven't heard anything fron Winston, but hope to real soon.
