Since there has been a lot of us in mourning, I thought it would be nice to write down the cute, quirky and just plain lovable things we miss in our fur angel taken from us. I think it would be nice to smile about them right now during the holiday season. And I'd love to hear what other's fur angels would do!
I'll start:
Rugby was a happy-go-lucky German Shep Mix - he died July 21st without warning from hemangiosarcoma of the heart. He wasn't my 3 legged dog - he was my helper dog.
Here's what I miss:
1) Rugby wouldn't let my husband kiss me good-bye without being the first one to get a kiss from me. He would do a mad dash to me when he knew my husband was leaving to work. He'd jump up in my lap or on me and get the first kiss in! (It was rather weird since he wasn't jealous - he just wanted the first kiss!) To this day, I sometimes brace myself expecting him to come running when my husband leaves to work!
2) He was a one trick pony. Comet, my legged dog can do many, including 'lay down roll over'. Rugby was a big clod and could only do "Circus Boy" - in which he could sit up on his hind legs with help. That was it. But if you asked him to do 'Circus Boy', he would!
3) I especially miss his laugh and smile. I've never had a dog that was so happy all the time! In the 8 years of his life, he never ever got mad, ugly or ill-tempered. He was just happy. Sometimes too much so. Taking him anywhere was a chore because of his excitement. He screamed like a little girl and scared everyone in a big shephard body--but he was so excited and happy .

Comet - 1999 to 2011
She departed us unexpectedly January 23, 2011 at the age of 12 1/2.
She was born with a deformed front leg and a tripawd all of her life.
One of the things I miss is the dogs circling me like sharks when I would get up and they would know it was time for their morning treat. All three would circle me and I could hardly walk. I don't know why the others don't do it without her but I miss it.
Emily could not stand for anyone to hug or to dance. It would send her into a barking frenzy and she would jump up on us. Also, for some reason she barked at aluminum foil and at the oven. Sometimes I would have a pot holder in my hand and open the oven and Emiy would run across the room, grab the pot holder and take off.
She was a goof ball. I sure do miss her but these memories will stay with me forever and always make me smile.

Debra & Emily, a five year old doberman mix, who was diagnosed with an osteosaecoma. She had a right rear leg amputation on May 19, 2009. On November 10, 2009 she earned her wings and regained her fourth leg.

I love the foil/pot holder thing, too! I have one of those food choppers that is so great to use but Comet freaks out and hides. I hate that I can't use it! She is okay with a cutting board which is a lot more work.
I wonder what goes through their minds to come up with the stuff?

Oh my god, what a wonderful idea!
yes, just yesterday my husband said "thunder is coming" and I replied, "and nobody is barking" and we both knew what I meant.
Hori used to say "wooff-wooff" whenever the words "is coming" were uttered... it was quite amusing, as she naturally went to the window to see who it was!
You would be surprised how many times a day one uses those words! When the our baby was sleeping and somebody was indeed coming, we had to say "is approaching" or "is nearing" so that Hori wouldn´t bark.

What a great topic and what great timing -- one year ago today I learned Jack's cancer had overtaken his lungs....I spent the next week sleeping on the dining room floor with him until I set him free on 12/27/08...having a tough time with these holidays coming up remembering how awful last year was....ANYWAY -- this is supposed to be HAPPY! Where do I start with what I miss most about Jack?? There are about a million things but to name a couple I miss the most:
The way he would greet me when I would come home --- stand in the same spot in the kitchen and spin in circles with a big smile on his face...every time! Whether I was gone 5 minutes or 5 hours...it didn't matter.
Our hikes --- even when he was on three legs he and I would not miss our weekend hikes. He constantly amazed me with his ability to run, climb and swim whether on three legs or four.
Such an inspiration these tripawds are. I will forever miss Jack and hopefully forever remember the lessons he taught.
