Hi Stacy. Griffin looks fabulous! I really enjoyed the story about telling your nieces...I thought the way you handled it was excellent. Keep up the good work Tripawds has helped me and Jake so much too!
I tried to get on video today Jake jumping into his chariot and going for a spin. It was difficult to push and video. So I tried to get my husband to help and it didn't work. So I'll try again and post it. Jake LOVE'S his chariot!! All it took was his brother Oscar to jump in (he is a chihuahua) and Jake wanted to follow. Now he jumps in and out all the time. I can go further with more variety.
We also saw a rehab veterinarian on Tuesday. I'll try to post more on that this week in Jake's Journey.
Hi Connie! I was thinking about you and Jake the other day, wondering if his stroller had arrived. I can't wait to see videos of Jake enjoying his new ride - please post soon! ~ Stacy
Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com
Griffin had his third round of chemotherapy on Friday and again, thankfully, does not seem to have suffered any side effects. He was a little tired that day, but his appetite remained normal and he bounced back with energy yesterday. I've started taking the wagon on our morning walks to make sure that Griffin is not overdoing it. We start with Griffin walking and me pushing the wagon - a bit of a logistical challenge. Once we arrive at the park, we go back and forth with Griffin riding for a bit and walking for a bit, with a little fetch thrown in, but then he rides back the whole way from the end of the park. Griffin recently learned he could sit up while I was pushing the wagon (he's never been one to sit up while riding in the car, either), and that has pretty much been his preferred vantage point since then. Griffin's new snuffle mat arrived yesterday and the first test drive was a success (see videos below). I think it's a bit difficult for him to sniff out the treats from a standing position because his legs are so long, but he figured out that he could also find them from a laying position, too! Overall, it's been a good week and we are looking forward to Griffin's next rehab appointment (yay for a trip to New Jersey!) on Friday.
Griffin hanging out at the park and enjoying the river view!
Griffin getting twisty while doing nightly passive range of motion exercises and then taking a snooze with his favorite toy, Eagle!
Griffin enjoys the view from a sitting position in his chariot where he saw people jet skiing in the river!
Griffin checking out his new snuffle mat. I hope these nose work activities will help keep him entertained and mentally challenged!

Stacy, I think Griffen missed his calling. He was born to be a model. Not many dogs can work the camera like He can. And it's like He is right on cue. I see him advertising for all kind of pet products, and he might even be in a movie.
You never know, A star is born!
My Beautiful Beloved Brownie was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma on February 26, 2019. With all odds against him he lived an additional one year and eight days with amputation, love, and prayer. I was honored to be his mom, and I have never been so proud! He will live forever in my Heart!

Hi Nancy! All his life, people have wanted to take photos with Griffin, and especially during our work as a therapy dog team. I trained him to look at the camera by holding a treat above it, and now his just looks where my hand is. Griffin's natural facial expression is a relaxed, happy smile, so it doesn't take much for him to look good in photos. And I agree with you, he would make an awesome model and ambassador for the tripawd community! Stacy

Griffin had a physical therapy appointment yesterday, his second at Advanced Canine Rehabilitation in Warren, NJ. His therapist, David, did a lot of body work on Griffin, which I could tell was uncomfortable for him at times because his muscles were tight. However, after an hour of stretching and massaging, Griffin was as loose as a limp noodle and happily showed off that he could do his flexibility exercises with ease. About a week ago, I noticed that Griffin was walking with a different gait on a pretty regular basis - extending his back legs to move them more independently rather than using the quick 1-2 hop that he had adopted since his surgery - so I shared with David the video below. David said that the new gait actually looked really good and was a positive sign that Griffin was figuring out how to walk a bit more naturally as a tripawd. Whoo hoo!
The last time I cooked for Griffin, I doubled the recipe and squeezed out 19 portions. It's a good thing my freezer is half empty to fit so many containers!
Griffin loves his bolster bed, happily snoozing for hours and occasionally checking that I'm still around!
We have settled into a regular routine with the wagon coming with us on all but the shortest of walks. In addition to the workout I get from pushing this 60 lb boy around, I'm also building muscles when lifting him into and out of the wagon multiple times on each walk!
My boy sure does keep me laughing with his antics! We hope you had a great week. Stay safe and wear a mask!

Well, Brownie would look at the camera if I had a treat. But he wasn't as good as Grifeen. Brownies thought was no treat no picture.

You will have to send Griffin's picture in when it's time for the 2021 Tripawd calendar. Maybe he will be a centerfold!

And after his scritches you casually ask him to go get his ball....and he does!!! Just in a normal conversational tone, you ask him to go get his ball? Crazy smart dog! THIS BOY IS A GENIUS!!!!! Ao in love with Griffin❤
Interest observation about his gait. Makes sense what he said.
And yeah, you are getting a workout with Griffin's Chariot. Cardio, weight training, all rolled into one😎
Hugs

Hi Sally! He is a clown, but a very smart one! Griffin will get excited for me to throw the ball, and then drops to the ground for scritches before deciding that he'll fetch. I love to watch him look for the ball if he is not chasing it in the moment. He knows the general area where it was thrown and will run in overlapping circles until he finds it. Sometimes people will try to "help" him thinking he can't find the ball and I have to tell them that the hunt for the ball is part of the fun for Griffin. He always finds it! Stacy
