I can't believe it's been this long since since I've updated you all on Maverick! Between working as much as possible to pay the bills and driving Maverick around (incurring more bills) I've hardly gotten any time for myself lately. Maverick is doing better than I could have ever dreamed of and I'm starting to finally let go of that deep breath I've been holding since the day I brought him home.
I am more than grateful for our wonderful canine physical therapist (CCPT) Lisa Saez and our trainer Rachel Stintzcum. They have been my rocks for every worry and hurdle in our way to get to this point. Maverick did have some issues with scar tissue development but constant massage and stretching has helped to break up the muscle binding. It is so important to us to prevent muscle restriction and arthritis since he has a long life ahead of him.
I'm so proud to say that we've worked up to doing a 2 mile walk! Of course this weather means for a short potty break only before going back inside but as soon as it warms we're getting back out there. I almost lost Maverick in the last snow drift he ran into, lol! He loves going to his physical therapy every other week and keeps pushing himself without me even asking it of him. He actually went on the tallest wobble board by himself while Lisa and I were talking, he just stood there on it waiting for his chicken
We've been cleared to go back to group classes so Saturday we go back to training. The future keeps looking brighter for my little Mav.
Maverick is a constant source of inspiration for me. Any night I come home, body and mind battered and bruised, one look at my little angel washes it all away. I may be overworked for the next couple of months but its all worth it in the long run. We'll keep hopping along and I can tell you I'm looking forward to a nice vacation in a few months!

Yay Maverick! Glad to hear he's staying fit and agile! Rosie had a very similar puppyhood and we turned to swimming to keep her toned and limber. She is 4 1/2 now and still hikes and skis with us! Keep up the good work!
Cheers,
Kat
Thanks for the great update, and wise words.
Keep up the good work Mav!

I think she would love to do a podcast for you! We go back on February 4th but she's always available by email or phone. Lisa would really like to spread the word about why PT is great for tripaws. If you would like to talk to her about it her email is lisa@dalsdogrehab.com. Honestly, one of the sweetest women put on this earth!
