Hi Adriana!  I have enjoyed reading this thread about Czar, Uri, and Igo - they are all so adorable!  I noticed in your first post that you mentioned Czar received the Yale canine cancer vaccine before starting chemotherapy.  Griffin (10 year old goldendoodle, right forelimb amputation for osteosarcoma on April 2nd) already started chemo, but I also want to give the vaccine a shot.  I know there are 2 doses given 3 weeks apart, each time with a blood draw and then a third blood sample about 3 weeks after the second dose.  Is that correct?  Did you go to the Yale clinic or have your local vet administer the vaccine?  Do you know how long after the second dose (or third blood draw) you needed to wait before starting chemo?  I'm thinking of doing 4 rounds of chemo with Griffin, pausing to do the vaccine, and then resuming chemo for a few more rounds and I'm trying to figure out the timing of it all.  Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide!  ~ Stacy (Griffin's Journey)

Griffin lived an amazing life for 11 years! Diagnosed with osteosarcoma on March 17, 2020, Griffin's right forelimb was amputated on April 2, 2020. Ten days later he was running and playing fetch! Lung metastasis discovered in July 2020 did not slow down Griffin and he lived joyfully for the next 7 months, passing peacefully at home on February 11, 2021. https://griffin.tripawds.com

Hello,

Czar had his two week checkup for his trial meds. He gained some weight, which isn't great. But his lungs sounded clear. I hope the xrays in two weeks show that.

Yes, we went to the clinic. We were able to start chemo right after finishing. They are mailing vaccines, but no analyzing bloodwork right now. So you'd only be able to do the one shot, until that starts again. They may be making exceptions. It's best to email the trial coordinator.

Hi!  That's great news about Czar and fingers crossed for his chest xrays to also be clear!  I actually just got off the phone with the trial coordinator and she did not mention delays, so maybe that issue has resolved.  Thanks! ~ Stacy

Yay for an all-around good visit. Sounds like Czar is finally enjoying food again! It's so hard to manage a Tripawd's weight. It's doable, but always challenging, especially after you get a dog to start eating after a struggle.

I hope it works for you! While I'm hoping for stable xrays, they weren't clear at the last visit. It was a very small nodule. Just one. Fingers crossed for stable or shrinkage!

That's the problem. He doesn't want his food. Just treats. And I can't let him get his meds without a decent amount of food in his stomach. He also stopped eating the peanut butter, which worked great for pills. I can just get them down with cream cheese mixed with shredded chicken. I need to find a way he'll eat his kibble. He's the pickiest fat kid ever. He's definitely happy. He hung out with his favorite chemo tech today. I think he's a bit confused as to why the puppies are bigger.

THAT made me laugh today! Too cute. At least he's happy and eating something though. That's so much progress!

Wow that took a lot of strength to get up so quickly! I think he's showing off around the puppies. Good job Czar!

Czar has been very happy. His remaing front leg has been a bit sore with the increased activity. I asked his trial doctor what I can give him, but no word yet. He can't take Rimadyl.
