Hi everyone. I feel like I know you all already, and I realized today that even though I'm silently here, I hadn't properly introduced ourselves. At first I didn't post because Cricket was very new to us and was already a tripawd when we got her, and I quickly noticed that many of you had gone through a great deal before becoming tripawd parents. That left me feeling quite underqualified to be here. Once I finally decided to post, I had started posts several times and been interrupted, or accidentally closed the tab without finishing the post. But I'm posting now. Finally.
We adopted our tripawd, Cricket, this past October. She was found as a stray with a badly broken leg and dislocated knee. The injury had already begun to heal badly, so the vet and the rescue group opted to amputate Cricket's front right leg. We adopted her about three weeks post-amputation. We went to the rescue group looking for a pug mix, and ended up with a pomeranian, of all things, which is something I never imagined we'd have. We're low-maintenance people, so a "fancy" dog wasn't who we expected to fall in love with. But, it was love at first snuggle. Our entire family is head over heels in love with her.
Cricket is a tiny ball of energy, which is to be expected, since she's a pomeranian who is estimated to be a bit over a year old. Her favorite hobbies include running at a very high rate of speed around the yard while my older son tries to race her, wrestling with our 14 pound cat, wrestling with our bulldog mix's head while he lies on his back at Cricket's mercy, getting into trouble, and wrapping up the day by snuggling under the blankets.
The addition of Cricket into our lives is one of the most wonderful things that's ever happened to me, personally. Prior to having children, my husband and I took in special needs cats and dogs (and even the occasional 'less than perfect' chicken) over the course of several years. We're no strangers to animals who prove that their disabilities or flaws don't hold them back. But, Cricket is one of those creatures that just grabs your heart and holds it. She came into our lives shortly after I had suffered a major health crash (not life threatening) of my own, and had been an immense source of love, laughter, and most importantly a reminder that my own limitations do not make me a "less than." I can't imagine our lives and our home without her.
Welcome to Tripawds, your future posts will not have to wait for approval.
Thanks for finally posting!! Everyone on this tripawd and/or cancer journey is qualified to be here! We even let some 4 leggers join . Most of us are or were Tripwad parents, many of us deal with cancer, but the bottom line is that we are all dog people who treasure our companions no matter how many legs they have or how they got that way.
Everyone here becomes family and we love to celebrate what our pups bring to our lives.

Welcome, Cricket and family. I adopted Willow after her amputation. Willow did have cancer, so we had that to deal with and it is what took her from me, but I didn't go through the amputation and healing with her. Tripawds are special and amazing. Thank you for giving your girl a loving home!
Hugs,
Carol
So glad you stopped "lurkng" and joined the family! Welcome!
Thoroughy enjoyed reading all about Cricket and her pack! Yes indeedy, she knew what she was doing when SHE picked YOU!!
The only qualifications required here are that you love your furbabies and/or feathered babies! Clearly you surpass the requirementsz,
Oh ueah, there is one more requirement.....you have to post pictures of this adorable Cricket! A fourteen pound cat? A Bulldog mix? And of course a tripawd! These are going to be great pictures!!
Thank you for all you are doing for "special needs" animals. They are lucky to have yoo as their advocate.
Look forward to hearing more updates AND seeing more pictures of yor precious Cricket!!!
Higs to all!!
Sally and Happy Hannah
Happy Hannah had a glorious additional bonus time of over one yr & two months after amp for osteo! She made me laugh everyday! Joined April's Angels after send off meal of steak, ice cream, M&Ms & deer poop!
Welcome Cricket and Family!! Tripawds band together! Our Rosie is a tripawd from a genetic defect, so we all come from different places, but we are all here together. Welcome!
Cheers,
Hurricane Rosie and family
Welcome, Cricket. Murphy is a Tripawd due to being hit by a car. He also has had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. But we always say "don't tell Murphy. He doesn't know."
We look forward to seeing a LOT more of Cricket and hearing a lot more from you.
Kathi and Murphy
Murphy is a five year old Lab/Chessie cross. He was hit by a car on 10/29/12 and became a Tripawd on 11/24/12. On 2/5/13, he had a total hip replacement on his remaining back leg. He has absolutely no idea that he has only three legs!
UPDATE: Murphy lived his life to the fullest, right up until an aggressive bone lesion took him across the Rainbow Bridge on April 9, 2015 and he gained his membership in the April Angels. Run free, my love. You deserve it!
Hi Cricket, welcome! We're so glad you chriped in!
Yep, everyone here is welcome, we even have a discussion forum topic called "Beyond Cancer" for Tripawds who lost a leg for other reasons so you can always feel free to hop over there too and share more of your adventures with us. You are one lucky pup to have such loving, pawesome people caring for you now. We can't wait to hear all about your life!

Welcome Cricket and family! We MUST see pics, its a requirement I lurked for 9 months before I posted and I'm really glad I finally did. My Jake was a Tripawd due to cancer and two weeks after he earned his wings, we happened to see our little guy Tanner (also a Tripawd, but due to being hit by a car) and I didn't have the heart to walk away from him. Like you, we have always had a home full of rescue animals and I think you'll find you guys fit perfectly here

Pictures! Of course!
Lazy Cricket:
Cricket was too excited to take the Bully Stick into the new crate to let me put any padding in there first.
This was back in November, when she was still suspicious of photography, in one of her favorite spots - on the back of the couch above Buster.
And... A video of Cricket in turbo mode, also from back in November can be found at this link. I can't get it to load here: https://picasaw.....directlink
Bonus video of Cricket making Muppet noises while she wrestles with Buster: https://picasaw.....directlink

Too cute! Rizzo is fast as lightening! I love the expressions on her face.
I'm not sure how to embed those types of videos too, I'm pretty sure you can't. The easiest way is to upload to YouTube or Vimeo (which is nice because lots of people will see them versus vids that just stay in your personal albums).

We adopted Cricket less than two weeks after our older dog died very suddenly of cancer. She was fine in the morning, and was gone by evening. Cinder was half bluetick coonhound and half border collie. I used to say that she could track you down and then make you go in the direction she wanted you to go. hehee Anyway... She had a tumor on her spleen, and even if she hadn't past literally moments before surgery, she'd likely have only lived another month or two.
